I emailed the Subaru salesman I've been in contact with mentioning the 'released' pricing in an attempt to start negotiating.
He was quick to reply that this is not the pricing the dealers go by.
He mentioned Subaru has yet to update the ordering system so the dealership can not go by that MSRP, instead they have to wait for the ordering system to update the full cost in order for dealer to determine a true price.
He mentioned this was a "general" price. Nothing official for dealers to go by.
No word of release either. But id be 'the first to know,' doubt it.

Sounds like he is trying to allude to a "market value adjustment", if you get my drift.

This is one of the biggest though and very close.
I have great credit and will put quite a bit $ down if the test drive is as good as the pictures so im looking to save on interest. Plus paying it off within 2-3 years is a priority.

I got the same story from my dealer. They've already agreed to price at MSRP (+299 processing) in writing but said they haven't received official pricing from Subaru regarding what MSRP + transport will be. Hopefully Subaru is just being sluggish with their internal pricing and this is not dealers giving people the run around.

Well I for one am not going to take any $hit from the dealers on price. If they want to attempt to gouge me, I'll take my business elsewhere. This is no supercar, and I'm in no rush to buy. Any higher price than MSRP and it's a used Cayman/911 for me.

Meh, just wait until the numbers are in the system. That might be all that there is to it.

I work at a Porsche/Audi dealer and was speaking about a Cayman as an alternative to the BRZ. They are known for having faulty intermediate shaft bearings, and when they break, the whole motor can break. My shop foreman who works on all the big-dollar Porsches said to beware. However you should be able to find a BRZ for MSRP and be happy :D

No one will buy this for the MSRP. Taxes and interest rate will ad $5k+ depending on your state.

That was a problem on old M96 motors, and greatly exaggerated then. M97 engines are fine, except that they leak even more oil.

This is what turned me off from buying my buddy's very gently used 2005 boxster back in fall of 2009. I could have had a 7500 mile boxster that I know was babied for $21k, but the warranty was going to be up shortly after I bought it and I was worried about a $12k engine repair (replacement). Still kind of regretting not buying it as that car would have been a blast.

Reading up on the internet is not always a good place to research such things, since the only people on there are the ones who have a problem. Makes it seem like 50% of the cars out there need a new engine when in reality I bet it is somewhere around 5%. Nobody hops on a forum and says my car is running fine and I have no problems, but they sure as hell tell the world when they have to spend big bucks to fix it.

^^ :word: That applies equally to just about any complex consumer good you can think of these days, from computer motherboards to washing machines.

+1 on what you said about no one would say things are running fine on the Internet. You only post problem, or search for the same problem, on Internet and try to find a solution. If things are fine, don't bother post it.

BTW, that was a refreshing note on the reliability of Porsche cars/engines. I always thought they were pretty reliable, I guess I was wrong on that.
