FRS car cover

Hi guys,

Anyone can recommend to me a fairly priced car cover for the FRS?

I am just using it to cover at work or when I am traveling for work. I also will probably put it on when I park outside where I live.

I see some ranging from $60-$230..with the latter being thicker. Can anyone explain why the higher priced ones are better beside from being thicker?

I see some on ebay for like $50. How are those?

Thanks

I personally dont use car covers because they end up causing swirls on the paint so I cant recommend what to get.

If you absolutely have to get a car cover get one that is the right size for it, something thats going to fit tightly around the car so it doesn't move and slide around on the paint.

They create swirls? Damn I didn't know. The whole reason I got a car cover is to add extra protection and prevent dust to accumulate (since my BRZ will be parked 4-5 days of the week in my garage).

I personally got the BRZ car cover (haven't taken delivery of my BRZ yet).

However I was disappointed with the material of the Subaru OEM BRZ car cover, it seems very cheap and the inside it's definitely not soft.

Basically what happens is when you put your car cover on a vehicle thats is already dirty or dusty and the car cover moves around on top of that dust and dirt, it ends up slowly scratching the paint and creating light scratches in the paint.

The best way to avoid this if you had to get a cover is get something of good quality, and make sure its very tight so there wont be any movement in wind.

I have this one:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DNJ732/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Classic Accessories 10-011-241001-00 OverDrive Polypro 1 Biodiesel Compact Sedan Car Cover for Sedans : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

You want the model 241001 (compact sedans). It fits the FR-S like a glove.

Is it extremely snug to they point where it will take some time to put on? Also i have the normal antenna, will that cause an issue with this?

Thanks

I have this one:
http://www.covercraft.com/carcovers/ultratect.html
Mine is specifically for the FRS/BRZ, and I bought it off another forum member.

Works pretty good when I park the car for extended periods of time in the garage.
I'll see if I can get some pics later, been driving the car often in the last few days and haven't really used it yet.

Not quite that, it just takes a couple minutes, less if you have help.

Car covers can damage the paint.. They are generally used to protect clean cars, as in garage queens. If you put them on a dirty car, you can rub the dirt into the paint.. Etc..

I prefer the term GARAGE KING.

Garage King is for built cars that see track time and race on weekends..
Garage Queen is for cars that are stock and afraid to get down and dirty...

Think of rubbing down your dry car with a dry towel. It wouldn't be long before your paint was shot. That's what a car cover and wind can do to your car over time. I've had dust covers on cars that were in my garage but never a car cover outside.

gily25 09-26-2013 12:47 PM

If it's just for dust you'd be better off getting a microfiber duster/california duster to use on the days the car is mostly clean. I have the Xtreme Cover Pro listed on ebay for storing mine in the garage for winter; has a nice fit and keeps the dust off.

Tt3Sheppard 09-26-2013 01:44 PM

Curious. What about for outside storage in the winter time. No garage access. Safe to use after a cleaning?

frs10 09-26-2013 03:09 PM

only get one if ur keeping it indoors w/ no wind... otherwise, pay for a interior garage!

From what I've read, if you have a cover with a tight fit AND gust straps, you should be able to use it outside in the weather (provided you get the right type of material for your climate and also put it on after a wash).

I'll know next spring as I'm sitting the FR-S in my driveway covered with gust straps.

thebus 09-26-2013 11:42 PM

I'm in the same boat would not like to drive this car in the winter and plan on keeping it outside wrapped up

If you go this route, I would hand wax/detail the car before putting the cover on, then have a good detail shop lined up for Spring to take any scratches out of the car before you start driving around.

Or better yet:

Get some cheap painter's plastic rolls (at most $20) and cover up the car prior to using a car cover.

I swear by 'Noah' covers by Covercraft for outside storage, cut specifically for the car. They fit like a glove and protect beautifully. I remove (unscrew) the antenna before covering. I always have a good coat of wax on the car and I wipe down all contact areas with detailer before installing. I also use gust guards front and rear. Been doing this for years with several different cars and I've never had a scratch or a swirl.

BTW, this cover is very thick and takes up a lot of room when rolled up so it's not really practical for day-to-day use. But for longer term outside storage it's the best I've found for a decent price.

My Mustang has gone through hurricanes Irene and Sandy as well as several blizzards with a custom fit Noah cover and still wins first place trophies at MCA judged events where paint condition is a major consideration. If you're getting scratches or swirls: (a) You don't have the right cover for its intended use or (b) the car (or cover) was dirty when the cover was installed or (c) the cover doesn't fit properly. It's that simple.

White64Goat 09-28-2013 12:55 PM

What is a 'gust guard'?

White64Goat 09-28-2013 02:31 PM

Check out www.autochic.com I have seen one of their covers on a Porsche Carrera R in Florida and it fits tight, like a glove. I think it's around $300 for a top of the line fabric for a BRZ.

Thanks. I think Covercraft is one of the main manufacturers of a lot of car covers sold by a lot of vendors.

OICU812 09-30-2013 04:39 PM

Covercraft makes great covers. Their Dustop for strictly indoors is awesome, and for universal indoor and outdoor and great protection their Evolution for this car also would be choice.
