Mandatory Paint Protection

I just spoke with a local dealership and was told their cars will be sold at MSRP but a mandatory "paint protection" package will be added for $1500. Anyone else hear this?

It's a dealership thing. A gimmick to tack on more $ onto your car. I would shop around for somewhere that isn't doing that.

tranzformer 04-05-2012 05:40 PM

It is their way to justify selling over MSRP. I would skip out on that. Ask them what their pain protection is. Probably costs them $50 to do whatever the "paint protection" really is. Basically pure profit for them.

Yeah, i got off the phone quick. The guy didn't even know what the hell it was and asked to call me back with more info.

All they do is put some shitty wax on the car and charge you for it. So you're paying 1500 for a wax job...

what I do is tell them I want that cut out! i dont need any of those "add-ons" trust me they'll say no but intill you talk to a sales manager they sing a different tone!

they tried that on my 350Z lol

neutron256 04-05-2012 05:49 PM

Make sure you get the imaginary undercoating as well. LOL

If I can't see as far as I'm concerned they didn't really do anything.

86design i know what you're saying, just hate the up front BS.

wu_dot_com 04-05-2012 06:00 PM

thats bull crap. there is no such thing as mandatory over MSRP

sbxjap 04-05-2012 06:12 PM

it's funny we're talking about this. I work in a body shop and some cars that come in have a "simonized" coating. They pay the dealers about $400+ for this coating so they don't have to wash/wash car as much.

After the accident, the insurance company will only pay $50 for it because that's how much the dealers pay for it since they outsource it, lol.

When ever I hear manditory paint\undercoating I walk out.

how much i hate seeing ADD-ONS on the sticker..I just talk to the sales manager...cause trust me they'll work something out rather you walking away...but also depends on the dealership...there's some that dont give a crap about your business....

Bristecom 04-05-2012 08:00 PM

Yeah, it's a scam. I used to work at a dealer that did that too. It was just some basic wax they put on there and they'd charge $500 for it.

Just today my dad was about to buy an Optima SX but they said they had to charge $800 for the paint protection crap they put on there so my dad walked out. Never let them get away with that BS. I hate traditional sneaky dealers like this. I don't even want a wax on there for free! I want to use my own wax!
