When to clean CAI filter
When do you guys typical clean your filter? Not the airbox filter. I have a FA20Club CAI with a K&N filter where the snorkel used to be.
I already have the K&N "Recharge" kit since I had to oil it before installation. I'm at 16,500 Mi. |
K&N recommends every 50K miles for OEM replacements and 100K for aftermarket type filters, but I tend to do mine more often, maybe about every 10-25K depending on how the filter looks. I might be cleaning more often than I should, but something about a nice clean air filter just makes me happy and sleep better at night haha.
Here is the K&N artice on how to clean the filter: http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm Thanks, Rick |
I cleaned my filter after 1 year use which was actually less since it is garage bound from October to the first of April.
There was some crap that rinsed out and the car seems to breathe better at the top end now. I thought K & N filters are all pre-oiled out of the box. |
Great! I think I'll clean it when I go home in Nov since I have tools there to remove the front bumper.
wbradley, I thought so too but it didn't seem oiled and it said oil before use on the filter itself. |
They should be preoiled. If you added oil to it, it probably has too much oil in it now and that can be detrimental to your maf sensor.
Typically, I clean mine every 10k or once a year. Just depends how dirty it gets really. |
Best way is to take it out and see how dirty it is. Miles aren't always accurate.
|
Same as any other vehicle when the pleats are visibly dirty? How long is going to depend primarily on dust in air and humidity.
