Springs for a Daily Driver: Looks over Performance HELP !
 

i know theres alot on springs and performance and shocks premature wear etc but i have to ask because its hard for me to find exactly what i need to.
1) im going for looks NOT Performance
2) i hate the wheel gap and want to drop about 1 inch something like the Eibach Pro Kit
3) will i wear out the shocks earlier than normal even if just a daily driver car ? i live in NY with alot of potholes but im careful

** really want to know the downside of dropping the car an inch or 1.2" what are some shocks that you have had success with personally with putting alot of miles on that are similar to OEM... soft suspension i heard was better so please help me out here and not tell me to search these forums lol thanks

blown struts? => sell ur springs => new coils :)

1.5" is pretty slam. I still have troubles driving through ramps with 1" lowered.

How would I know if I have blown struts and I think I'm going to do the pro kit about an inch lowered on them

I run Tein S-Techs on my daily driven FR-S. They're good for a 1.5" drop and I am still able to get around the LA area without scraping (just be patient). The handling is still as forgiving as ever, but the ride gets a little choppy over bumpier roads. I would eventually like to upgrade the shocks. Unless you're planning on slamming your car, then you'll be satisfied with the looks.

I'm on RCE Yellows (0.8" / 20mm) and there are a few places where I have to be careful leaving a driveway, but for the most part I'm usually surprised that I don't scrape.

1" should not really be an issue unless all your driveways are nasty. If you go with the Sport Lines (1.4") then you might have more to worry about.

The stock shocks/struts can handle the drop. Most people won't have their cars long enough for that to be an issue.

I'm wondering if something like Robispec's rear strut hats would help. They let the shock expand an extra 2", but I don't know if they're made to work with stockers.

My Eibach Sportlines handled really well this past Saturday. :D

im financing the car for 6 years so i plan to have it that long, im going to go with the Pro Kit that has the 1 inch drop when everything else fails ill just have to go with coilovers or shocks... how much to aftermarket shocks go for ?

pro kit is more like RCE springs. you don't care performance, right?
I'd go either with sportlines or swift springs. Swift springs bring best of both worlds, performance and 1" lower but more expensive.
Go with sportlines. I wish I had #sportlines.

We talk performance once you really go into quality set of coils.
Blown struts? Very bouncy rides, like very.. stiff springs also produces bouncy rides but not as bouncy as blown struts.
Also, noises when you hit curbs. By visual inspection, the blown struts have liquid around.

Go to Sticky, you will find the spring rates there. Stiffer spring rates = faster wear for your struts.

I love RCE, but 0.75" meh...

Get ST coils, call it a day? I bought my swift long before ST has been released. I would have gone that route. lol

or TRD springs like everyone else talking about?

I have the H&R sport springs, it drops it an 1" and it looks much better over stock, and if you get 18" wheels it'll look pretty nice. I don't scrape or anything so its pretty comfortable on a 1" drop and its not harsh.

Tell you the truth I wouldn't mind going lower like Eibach Sportlines or the H&R Super sports, it'll look better but you're also putting more stress on stock struts, but since you're not going for looks, the 1" drops will be good for you.

Don't the sports lines drop 1.5 inches ? I'm running 18x8.5 235/40 front and 18x9.5 265/35 both with a +38 offset and they both poke just a tad I think the Pro kit drops 1 inch so that's definitely more up my alley I want to have some wheel clearance and not rub also
What do you think and are the pro kit similar to the spring rates of stock ? Soft ? What are the softest springs
