BRZ - S2K Few Pictures
|
I wonder if the BRZ closes that huge wheel gap, if it will look the same in height vs the S2k.
and oh yeah.. THANK YOU I WANTED THIS COMPARO FOR A LONG TIME |

I almost had the store owner excited about a little twisty turn drive up the canyon against the S2K, that would have been a sad day for the all new BRZ !! I can here it now..... "owner loosed license to sell Subaru Cars, BRZ smoked by S2000" JK |
Wow the BRZ looks like a tank next to the S2k. Yikes. I think it's because the BRZ is wider. The longitudinal hood strakes on the S2k make the car look purposefully long and narrow. The BRZ doesn't have any of that, plus the white makes it look bigger too.
Oh, and the S2k still looks fantastic 13 years later. |
the s2k appears to be lowered as well. not exactly a stock vs stock comparison with regards to height.

Nice comparison though. Stookies are still sexy as hell. They will definitely age well but it's gonna be harder & harder to find a completely unmolested stock one in the future. I wish I hadn't sold mines  |
What i really like about the s2000 in the pic is its a painted hardtop.
Thanks for sharing. |
Thanks for sharing especially because I like that S2K.

Looking good! I wish Honda made a RWD coupe.
|
Nice pics and thanks for sharing. Disappointed that the BRZ looks so much bigger than the S2K. I sold my S2K CR to get the FT-86.
|
Turbo? Nice...
|
It doesn't look bigger than the S2k to me, I think it's just the higher hood that's deceiving to the eye. Stupid European pedestrian impact nonsense. It's a tiny bit taller but not much, I guess if it's necessary to accomodate some taller folk that's fine.
|
It certainly looks like it displaces more cubic feet than the S2k. I suppose that's the price to pay to have a 2+2 with a real trunk.

The hood on the BRZ looks like it's about 2-3 inches higher probably for impact safety, so that's about right. The overall height looks to be about 2 inches higher after you consider the slight drop on the S2000, I don't see where that height is coming from but I'd hope that the BRZ fits taller people than the S2000. |
it looks bigger as in wider thats for damn sure
btw turbo s2k   |

I was LMAO, Some of the sales guy's at dealer didn't even know it was out there on the 2nd day. Awesome day in Colorado for photo's, S2K out for a spin: Can't imagine the parts/labor rate for making the BRZ a comparable road racer.....guess I will see soon !! http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/DSC_1353.jpg |
Gorgeous S2k. If I could find a clean AP2 at a reasonable price here that isnt yellow, silver, or red, Id jump on it in a heartbeat.
|
Very nice, we need some more new 86 rivals, like a new Silvia, a new S2000 coupé, and a new RX-7.

I don't think Honda could produce something like the S2000 again; they've simply moved too far from the performance market in the 12 years since. Nissan S chassis rumors have been swirling around forever with no substance. Given their resurrection of Datsun and their money-making, record-shattering GTR, I think their interest ins't in this segment. Rumors of the Mazda and a new rotary are non-stop, but another rotary like the 13B simply won't fly. The design of the engine was poorly understood (consuming oil is built into the design, I'm told), mileage was poor and this age of CAFE standards can't afford that, and reliability simply wasn't there.
This has always been a tough segment, but I don't think we'll be seeing light AND powerful cars for some time. It just makes more sense to sell tarted up Fiesta hatchbacks and MS3s. Now, a fixed roof Miata with the MS3 engine...that'd be something. I do wonder how well the twins would do if they were 2 seater coupes rather than 2+2. Given how (un)usable the rear seats may be, I truly think they made sacrifices to get that 2+2 designation when they could have better balanced the car without those rear parcel shelves. According to a quick comparison of a 2001 S2000 on Edmunds and the BRZ specs page on Subaru's website: Code:

Cool comparison pics.
Like someone else alluded too, it's amazing they are very similar in size, especially because of a bit bigger trunk space and 2 extra seats. And the BRZ weighs LESS than it. One thing I didn't really care for in the S2K is the upright windshield, it really ruined the aerodynamics of the car and it was a magnet for rocks. But it really was one of the few pet peeves that I had about the car. Seeing the two cars side by side really confirms the size and the BRZ looks perfect. I like the fact that it's a bit bigger than the S2K, because I also (pet peeve) thought the S2K was a bit too narrow. Thanks for sharing. |
cool... your brz looks great. wondering Where you had your rear fog lights... anybody tried buying from jcwhitney auto parts? seems they have pretty cool taillights. thanks
