America's most thrilling roads

Saw this on Yahoo! and thought I would share. I've never driven on any of these roads (not even tail of the dragon), but after looking at some pictures and videos, it looks to me that most of them would be a blast to drive on with the fr-s.

Anyone have any experience driving on any of these roads?

Hm, nothing in my area...surprised "gmr" or Mulholland wasn't present. I guess they aren't as scenic?

Does it include the road to the airport to get to Europe or Japan?

I need to look at this later on my own computer.

I've done 9 out of 10 and the Dragon & Panoramica in PR are the only 2 worth seeing. Far better drivers roads could have filled the other 8 spots.

There are actually 24 on the list, use the following link then use the next/previous buttons.http://www.mensjournal.com/expert-ad...-sisters-texas

I have been on four of the first ten. None of the second group except perhaps Twisted Sisters really appeal to me because I am more interested in looking at my next apex than I am in looking at the scenery. For that reason I tend to drive a lot on some of the great driving roads in SE Ohio. A group of about a dozen FT86 owners will be heading down there on Oct 19th for a day of driving fun.

I have heard talk of an annual meet for the BRZ/FR-S being organized for the Tail of the Dragon. Many car groups already do that including s2000, Mini, Mazda and Mr2 Spyder among others. The BRZ/FR-S is perfectly suited to the Dragon because it is more like driving a 11 mile autox than it is a road. A small lightweight car is the car to have on that road. Unfortunately, traffic can be heavy, motorcycles and a bicyclist are everywhere, the speed limit has been lowered to 30MPH and said speed limit is heavily enforced during the day time. For that reason, many drivers wait until evening and late night hours to attack it. Every sports car enthusiast should drive the Dragon at least once.

I have been on a few of those roads, but not in the FRS. Some of those choices seemed to be based more on how scenic they are, but that doesn't always mean thrilling.

The big problem is usually speed limit/congestion on many of these roads. For example, Going to the Sun road in Glacier National Park would be amazing/terrifying/thrilling if you could blast up it as fast as possible, but that would never happen. In fact many National Park roads are amazing, but they all have low speed limits and massive RV's clogging the roads.

Personally, I would put the Taconic Parkway in NY, I have been on that in the FRS. It's like a roller coaster and insanely narrow for the traffic you can encounter on it (it is fairly scenic too). In addition, the speed limit says 55mph, but during rush hour I challenge you to find anyone going under 75.

problem with these articles are, these roads are filled with either bicyclist or motorcycles that rarely let anyone pass because they think they're fast as shit on the corners. There are so many nice roads in Cali that are secluded but they're all in the middle of no where lol.

We have highway 29 on the outskirts of Birmingham, Alabama. Fantastic!

The Dragon is a big speed trap.

I've driven 8 & 9 many times in other cars, haven't got the BRZ there yet. But they are both a great experience. Plus the roads leading to that area are just as entertaining...if you want real fun and no speed traps, run them at night. But that requires a little more concentration... ;)
