Left fog light stopped working 2 days after LED switch, possible culprit?
I installed white LED fog lights one night and both sides work. Then I noticed two days later the left side stopped working. I've been too lazy to take a look until my replacement amber LED fog lights came in. Thinking it was just loose, I expected the amber ones to work but they didn't. I switched back to the regular bulbs and those don't work either. Switched left and right bulbs and they would work on the right side.
At this point, I'm most likely going to bring it into the dealership to have them check electrical wiring, but could the change to LED bulbs be a reason why the left side would go out? |
Sounds like the ground to me.

Original fog light housings ?
Reason for asking, when I had my original housings I tried one side with HID and one side with LED. Obviously given, the HID gave off substantial more heat which in turn blatantly showed the housing was melting. The LED however at the time showed to be okay.. No melting, no smoke, everything was good. I put in both LEDs and drove the car for an hour and a half and got home to find out part of the LED bulb blew on one side. Went to get a replacement the next day and the other side blew as well. Figured they were bad bulbs. Went through 4 sets until I realized that the fog lights weren't showing damage from the heat, but the venting system of the fog lights suck and the heat being built up damaged the bulbs themselves.. Now I'm running 2013 Subaru Outback fog lights (glass lens, composite housing) with 6300k H11 HIDs (6300k I think) and no problems what so ever. Hope this helps, otherwise I hope you enjoyed the story haha ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free |
if it's the ground, is there anything an average guy with no electrical experience test safely to determine if that's the case?
they're just regular LEDs, not HIDs. |
Sounds to me like it could be the ground, but send us an email: contact@diodedynamics.com
We will give you more in-depth information Nick C. |
