Tough decision. What would you do?
About to place my order for a '14 Crystal black silica limited/auto, I notice on their site, they have a '13 Galaxy blue silica in transit (the original color I wanted). Ever since I found out they discontinued the GBS for 2014 I pretty much talked myself up to the CBS, to the point where both color is 50/50 now. So now is the tough decision...
'14 CBS pros: newer model, minor upgrade (AHA radio, kneepads), worked out the minor kinks the first year model had. '13 GBS pros: Discontinued, making it more rare than black. Be able to say you had the 1st year model making it more valuable (although ill probably never resell it). So what would you guys do? I know its all subjective, but sway me! |
No question. Go with the '13!
First, you dont' even know if they've worked out the kinks from the 1st year model and, two, those upgrades aren't even an upgrade. Quote:

I don't think the '14 has any "kinks" that have been worked out... Go with the color you want, because that's something you'll always regret, and it will be in your face for the rest of your ownership of the BRZ! |
I'd say get the 13 as well. The original color you wanted and i think you'd be happier that way.

13 better to be different

'13. Original model year. Amazing colour in person. I know because I have an Ultramarine!
Not many blue cars on the road, plenty of black ones. Plus, GBS is very rare within our own car community as well. You'll be happier with it. |
I would go for the '13 GBS. I love my WRB, but I think GBS is a really good color and think that should have been my first choice.

I think GBS is one of the nicest colors offered, dont live in regret!

The Aha radio headunit sucks fyi. You'd be better off with the one in the '13MY
|
Pretty much agree with the posts above go for the GBS I did and love it.

13 man.
True, buying a '13 at the end of the year doesn't make too much sense, but...you are buying the color you want, which happens to be discontinued. The only reason NOT to buy a 13 is the financial impact later on, of selling a car that is coded a year older. But, in terms of upgrade, believe me, the '14s are no upgrade man. The Aha integration is actually a downgrade, because it makes the already slow Head unit, slower and clunkier. With no real pros, because most of the Aha features are gimmicky and depend in this poorly developed interfaces with a smart phones. The knee pads...you can get them aftermarket, same with the new badges (if they are new, I think they are only repositioning them). Go for the 13 hands down. |
get that blue!

13 GBS
You can add knee pads, and radio isn't that much better. Plus you can negotiate well below msrp on a 13. Probably pay msrp or higher on a new 14. |
Or buy both and keep the GBS(is it also AT?) as a showpiece/investment.
