Burnt Tips
Has anyone here tried burning the tips of their exhaust?
|
Non-titanium?
|
You mean of the stock exhaust?
The tips are so far back in the US models that you'd never see it anyways. Not to mention the last thing you'd want to do is attract any attention to those meager looking stock tips. |
I was thinking more like aftermarket exhaust that don't come already burnt. Like has anyone burnt the Perrin tips yet?

Pretty sure it needs to be titanium to get the blue burnt effect.

EDIT: When you see burnt titanium tips, that's just the manufacturer and/or owner's way of showing off that it's made of titanium. It's the titanium equivalent of unpainted carbon fiber. |
Rainbow tips are titanium, but very few exhausts are titanium. The blueish tips that are on most you see are just put there via some other process. Not sure if its just heated or what, but there are plenty of exhausts with stainless tips come that way too, it just doesn't look as natural, as its very blue and has a very hard cutoff point, rather than a blend into the narural titanium color

On stainless clean it really good and hit it with map gas. I burnt mine turns out nice but you can barely see the stock tips. As for titanium you don't need heat. You use electricity and some cola I've burnt titanium as well. 3 9v batteries in series will usually do the job.

Steel turns blue after being heated to 550F or higher then allowed to air cool. The color change is a form of oxidation. Other metals do the same thing too.

I have Ti tips that are blue
