Mercedes A class AMG v BRZ?

Mercedes A class AMG pumps out 355 bhp from a two litre turbo....

Can Subaru do the same?

Next year please?

If Toyota can conspire with BMW why not send a Subaru over to Mercedes?

Vten 09-13-2013 12:17 PM

Yes it can , just double the price .

You're funny lol. I think I read somewhere that Subaru isn't ever going to do a factory turbo charged version of the BRZ. Plus, if they did, it'd probably be twice the price/ the price would increase dramatically.

But do we really want Mercedes dependability?

BRZ is a tuner car. You get the forced induction mods on your own. You should be happy they choose that route instead of making a $40k-$50k car.

The FA20 is arguably the best boxer motor to date. Check out Crawford's review.

In Top Gear's Speed Week issue, they brought along an AMG A45 and didn't like it at all. Understeer, front end soft like "marzipan" on the track, body roll, throttle/turbo lag until 4000 rpm, low redline at 6250 rpm, droney engine, etc.

Sounds like another specs > driving experience car.

Comparison of the CLA 250 might be more appropriate given the price. It starts at just under $30k, with a well equipped one coming in mid to upper 30s (sport and premium packages). 200hp + 250lb/ft from a 2.0 turbo. But... FWD.

It's not really a drivers car, but it's probably the best looking Mercedes Benz they've sold in years (IMO), offers a much higher standard of interior quality/luxury, and the price point puts it in the conversation with a BRZ Limited.

But the A class AMG is a 2x better car because it has 2x the horsepower! And it has a Mercedes badge on it!

Lol not even touching interior luxuries, the engineering for an OEM to put out a 2.0L 355HP motor would translate to another 10K alone. Forged internals, larger turbo (you can put a larger turbo out of the box on a BRZ and make that power with fueling; larger turbos spool slow, making the torque band much less harsh on internals while having high peak power)

Dad has a CLS550... while it's certainly got all the Mercedes flair, it's not exactly the best of quality, and that's coming in at $90k. I drove it for a month while my last car was getting body work, and I would much rather go with Audi. He also got in an accident and it took Mercedez 8 months to fix it. Their excuse was parts availability from Germany.

Sure you could get an A series, if all it took to put a smile on your face every day was to put your foot down and go moderately fast in a straight line. You could just get a Mustang and have the added ability to go sideways at least. Don't compare 2 completely different classes of car and try to have a legitimate discussion. "hmm, idk which I should get, the Bently or the Prius...".

how does that work? i dont know much about forced induction systems but it seems either wrong or simply not intuitive.
