Will the factory head unit fit other cars?

Sorry if this has been covered. It seems like it would have been. I tried searching, but maybe I couldn't think of any effective keywords. Anyway...

Will the factory head unit fit in other cars? Particularly an '06 Corolla? I remember reading somewhere that the head unit is a weird size, so I'm wondering if I could buy a kit to make it fit my girlfriend's car. If not, then I'm wondering if it's small enough to fit in the Corolla's console. I can always rig up my own bracket if I have to, but if the FR-S unit is too big, then I guess I'm screwed.

I don't know if the '13 FR-S even had options for a head unit, but just in case, this is the one I have. If that affects anything.

Hi Anthony,

Normalle it will fit in other toyota's.
The FRs and GT86 use a 2 DIN facepanel (dimensions are 200x100 mm)
These are the dimensions for the standard facepanel for all toyota's.
You need to check with the dealer if you need seperate brackets to install this in the corolla.

The problem is going to be the wireharness.
Every generation of audio has a different pin layout and sometimes even different connectors.:slap:
So you are going to need an adapter to install this headunit in your girlfriends car.
For some generations these are made by Toyota but you have to check this with your local dealer.

The twins do not have a dual-DIN head unit.

It's a dual DIN height but it's wider than a normal dual DIN.

DIN is 180mm x 50mm

dual DIN is 180mm x 100mm

Twins HU is more than that. I believe Wylliam is correct in that it's 200mm x 100mm.

That's why you need to use a dash kit with black plastic blanks on either side of the HU when you install an aftermarket double-DIN HU into the twins, because those are only 180x100mm.

Apparently the Corolla is 215x110mm according to anonymous internet guy in post #6 here: http://www.corolland.com/forums/inde...olla-din-size/

thanks guys for inadvertently answering my question on the hu sizing! ideas of running dual single-din's are running through my head..

You won't do a CD player and a cassette player.

All European Toyota vehicles have an audioless cluster, this audioless cluster is made for 200x100 toyota aftermarket audio.
And i'm 100% sure of this because i'm a multimedia engineer at toyota europe.
The corolla was a global vehicle so this cluster must be available.

That is not the reaction I was hoping to instigate.

Haha there you go.

Wyllliam 09-19-2013 11:47 PM

Im not saying that the measurements are wrong. Im saying that there Will be an cluster available with the 200x100 dimension for the corolla

Oh, ok. Good. So what should I search for to find one?

Wyllliam 09-20-2013 03:11 AM

The easiest way to find information like partnumber and cost is to go to the dealer.

Normally the partnumber should look like 55405-xxxxx
