only dozens of spots behind cars like the fiat 500, mini cooper and gti. lets not continue to acknowledge this as legitimate journalism and just enjoy it for its entertainment value

Sorry was this a list or a ranking? Looked kinda list-ish to me.

mfbmike 09-13-2013 01:41 AM

If you are looking at top gear for legit journalism, you're gonna have a bad time.

Kelbyat07 09-13-2013 01:43 AM

Hey at least the twins made it on another car's list.

Mandy 09-13-2013 02:01 AM

I doubted the credibility of the list around the time I got to the Ford Focus being placed 40 spaces ahead of the Ford GT. That and the Prius.

zaptorque 09-13-2013 02:48 AM

AN 98 FORD FOCUS IS #7?!

YMAA 09-13-2013 03:03 AM

Yeah, I really hope this was just an unordered list and not an overall ranking.

JesseE 09-13-2013 03:04 AM

lol there should be no vw/audi on that list... sorry they all couldn't make it through a days journey without breaking down... twice.

TRD-X 09-13-2013 08:55 AM

That's list is just as stupid as Top Gear...:mad0259:

Really 20 years after the Toyota Supra was made and you still pay a premium for one used but the Prius and ford focus is on that list.

FYI I dont think think the numbers mean anything. I think its an arbitrary list of 50 great cars

Actually, I think it does. Per the article it says they are counting down to the best car then awarding the winner to the Top car. Seems like it is in order to me. Man, there are some great cars missing from the list and some questionable cars added.. Can't say I agree with it. But it sounds like users voted.

DarkSunrise 09-13-2013 10:38 AM

I don't really understand this list, but I guess it's good the GT86 is on it. I think.

Really you think top gear thinks the ford focus is the 7th best car ever made in the last 20 years?

Me, no. But they say it is a countdown to the best car and over 100K viewers voted. So there may just be a crapload of Focus owners out there who voted and their car made the top of the list.

I would not put much stock in this "countdown"...

No Honda NSX, no care!

It's the results of an online poll, so I wouldn't blame Top Gear for making the choices, but the people voting. It does look like he says they are in order, since people voted, so the list is not disorganized. Either way, like someone else said, at the least the 86 made it.

It appears to be ordered based on the top 50 poll results, ascending from least votes to most. Kind of a bad way of doing this, the nice sports cars more obscure than say the Bugatti Veyron split the vote and ended up placing behind the random hatchbacks a lot of Top Gear viewers probably had and thought were the best cars ever.

no supra no care

encity5 09-13-2013 03:28 PM

are we still trying to find validation and approval for our choice in picking this car?

I thought we got that validation when we first drove it and took it for a corner.

I guess its cool that we made another list.

Of course, have you ever pushed one to its pure grip? Great cars, great chassis.

It was a mass produce car that was good handling, easy to work on and easy to modify. *See RWD V8 conversion*

Its more big in Europe then USA mostly because hatchback is a euro thing.

Really it would be awesome if there was a tv program on about our cars (tuners) and life style. :happy0180:

Who says anything about first releases??? Based on your argument there's a handful of cars in that list that shouldn't be there (miata, hilux, 3series, etc.) :iono:

Given how much Clarkson came to bag on his GT for never working and always being in the shop, it's not too surprising. I'm sure their list might have been different. "Thankfully you lot were on hand to help. Over 100,000 of you voted in our online poll, helping us to count down the 50 greatest cars of the past 20 years and crown the winner. And whoever attempted to cast four million votes for the Morris Marina, you've been reported to the authorities."

The difference is the other cars noted are completely different to the originals, they are the same car in name only. The NSX was basically the same car (with minor upgrades and facelifts) from when it was 1st released in 1990 and even if you want to argue it can be compared to the others you mentioned (I don't think it can BTW) the changes made to the car within the 20yr timeframe for this comparison does not make it one of the best 50 cars in last 20yrs.:(

However if we were to say the last 25years then I would agree with you wholeheartedly. The NSX was a very significant car that made the "exotic" car manufacturers sit up, take notice and realise you can build a supercar that could be driven and lived with everyday
