Twilight/Evening HPDE at Pocono North Course with Audi Club
I feel really lucky to have been able to do a night event. My first session was during sunset so it started in the light and ended in the dark (this really screws with your perception and timing). The other 3 sessions were in the dark and it rained during the last one which started at 11:30 pm. It was a short but nice track configuration which was easy to remember. The straits were really short so most of the time you are turning, add nighttime to this and you're in a situation where losing focus anywhere could end badly, being on a track at night is really some wild stuff.
The video has a couple of laps from different parts of the night so you can see the different conditions. With the 2 hour drive there and back, I only used about 1 & 1/4 tanks of fuel for the entire day :-). By the time I saw all of you parked in the same place I was already unpacked and settled in. |
That looks like a lot of fun. You are very lucky. I couldn't imagine an evening HPDE. The Audi club must have good insurance or safe members for that to happen. Were there any incidents? How could you see your reference points in the dark?
Were you allowed to use your high beam headlights and raise them up as high as you want? |

No high beams were allowed, it would be too distracting to anyone in front of you. I actually aimed the lights low so my eyes would stay adjusted to the dark. Between the headlights and the lights they had out it wasn't too hard to see the reference points with enough time to prepare but remembering the track helped a lot. |
Hey guys I was the instructor in the blue BRZ. I have done a few night events and I love it, quite a difference but I think they did a good job with the lights. and it is nice to see these cars being used and they were intended.
