I was thinking an old RWD car would be fun. I don't need to go super fast, just keep it simple and cheap.

A friend of mine is a former rally driver. A conversation I once had about his experience in it went a little like this:
Him: "Yeah, I left a couple race cars in the woods.. Just got out and left it there." Me: "just left it there?" Him: "It was completely destroyed....completely. But it wasn't on fire, I'm sure somebody pulled it out, somebody kept it... I mean we took out the expensive bits but yeah, left the car." Me: "Really!?" Him: "Things were a little different in the 80's. If you're going to go rally, even today, you should be mentally and financially prepared to leave your car in the woods, even though today you wouldn't get away with that." I like to think of every aspect of my race car as being a "wear item" but rally driving really drives that concept home. |
Relevant video for motoring fun, although this is in the wrong sub-forum:

Honestly, building a Rally car isn't much different then building a demolition derby car. It's not a question of if it's going to get broken but when and will it be recognizable afterwards.
