p0463,P013f and c1237 codes?

Threw a P0463 code today. Been running e85 for the last two weeks. been noticing its been harder to start in the mornings lately. not really sure whats causing this all of a sudden.

P0463
Fuel Level Sensor "A" Circuit High

cleared the code. drove to pick the wife up from work. left the car running the entire time no code pop. after being home went out to move the car into the garage and the code was back.

have not messed with the fuel system at all other then flashing for e85 and what not. but been on e85 back and forth since April and everything has been fine. Not even sure what to check. Going to drain the 85 out of the tank tomorrow and get some 93 back in there.

Anyone? Any ideas?

New codes.

After not knowing why this code hit. I went back to pumpgas and no codes since.

Yesterday I drained the tank put e85 back into the car. drove around drained it. put more e85 back into the car to make sure any of the 93 octane was gone. Did a fresh reflash.

Today me and a co-driver put about 14 runs on a 50second course. car ran fantastic. I'm my way home. I threw a check engine light. Had my laptop with me pulled into a gas station pulled the codes. I had a feeling it was this code again.

Sure enough it was.

But I also pulled a few more. P0463..P013F and a C1237

Since the time if year is changing. I think they are changing the e85 back down to e70 or something.

All these codes are a bit strange. Any ideas

If you are where I think you are, the mix changed last month. You are on blend 2, will go to blend 3 next month or so, going to blend 4 (nearly E-50) in December. Better go back to 93, or spring for flex if you intend to use Ethanol for the winter.

Very helpful link! Just for us lazy bastards, the 1-4 classes... are these defined somewhere in there? Assuming 1 = 85%, 4 = 50%, etc. I thought there were only 70 and 85% blends. I really need to be less poor and get on the flexfuel kit apparently.

P013F = O2 Sensor Delayed Response - Lean to Rich Bank 1 Sensor 2
C1237 = Not sure. Looks like it could be an ABS code? Means different things for different manufacturers and couldn't find a Toyota specific listing.

Wish I had helpful ideas for ya. :( I've seen others get P0463 but not the rest. Was anything unusual? C1297, P0171, U0100, and P0700 were my list of random codes, so I can't be much help. :(

Your fuel probably has too much gas in it to run properly on an e85 map. Get a baby bottle that holds at least 200ml. Fill it with 100ml water then add 100ml fuel ("e85"). The gas will separate and float on top. How ever many ml of gas there are that's the % gas in your e85. I.e. If there is 25ml of gas separated on top it is actually e75 that you are pumping. Mine here went from 80% to 75% two weeks ago. I'm running an e70 map and adding about a gallon of pumpgas per tank.

I have a e85 tester maybe I should use it:bonk:. But you are correct its that time of year to start heading back to 93. Didn't have this issue earlier in the spring. Cant use flex fuel not stx legal. Also e85 cant use it next come next year so its a good time to wean my self off of it.

I did add a perrin catback this week wonder if that's causing the o2 issue?

I'm guessing you are on ecutek tunes? I suspect P0463 is caused by the ecutek E85 map, perhaps one of the features that used to use do something funky with the gas gauge.

I go the slow response rich to lean once in about 3 months of running E85 on my own brzedit tune.

As for the percentage of ethanol... I don't think that is anything to do with your codes. Lower ethanol content would only cause fuel trims to run more negative and your would be more knock prone.... Neither would cause either of the P-Codes.

You know what that makes a ton of sense. On the p0463 code. I had tony enable the 0 to 60 timers on one of my last tune updates.

I certainly can't speak for any of these codes directly. Just gotten weird behavior / DTCs when my fuel wasn't a relatively tight match for the tune. Never any P codes but oddballs like Trac / Abs C1201 and B14A1...not even sure on that one, maybe climate control? In theses cases it has taken several attempts to start as well even though it was 60*F + outside. Change maps and good to go.

Resurrecting an older thread. Flashed to Stg 2 EL E85 on OFT and I am getting the P0463 code. Reset it and it comes back. This didn't happen with previous E85 tanks. Has there been any new information on this issue?

feldy 07-29-2014 07:06 PM

Not sure. I have not run e85 in my car since I got these codes last fall. It was on a fa20club tune which I no longer use.

My frs received the P0463 CEL code this morning. Got to work, drove the car again at lunch and it was still on. After work i got back in the car and CEL was GONE. Figured i'd still plug in my scanner once i got home and thats when i read the pending P0463 code.

This is the first CEL i've received on this car
No major mods; running on 91 pump gas
When my fuel light illuminates, I go to Chevron and fill tank completely - ALWAYS
Once the gas nozzle "clicks" i remove it. i NEVER force extra gas in
Gas gauge is working fine. Gas cap seems fine and is tight

My baby is well maintained and have never had any serious problems. 25k miles.

Any possible reasons this code was triggered? Seems to be no input on this code regarding the FR-S / BRZ and i doubt my fuel level sensor is bad. Any advice on this is appreciated
