BRZ owners: did you upgrade your GPS nav map yet?

Has anyone in Canada upgraded their navigation unit map yet? I find that some places that i want to go, my GPS head unit can't find it. I wanted to update the map but don't know where to get it or how much. Anyone know? Not sure if i can trust eBay stuff on this.

You can do it for free if you're a bit tech savvy. I've made a bunch of little changes to mine but it took some digging online. All you need is a couple USB memory sticks/SD cards and a computer with a hex editor.

There are other threads on that forum that you might be interested in. You can do things like remove the nag screen, and turn on the 'safe mode' switch that will allow you full control of the menus while the car is moving. You still can't play video though when the car is running unless you move some wires around.

I did it with the tutorial in the DIY section of this forum. At the same time I removed the restrictions on using nav while moving, and also the nag screen is gone. And it was free :)

Have a look in the DIY section for the walkthrough, if it's too complicated you could always come to one of the KW meets and I can help you do it (takes about an hour and a half).

The map update is not bad, still seems out of date but it's a little improved in terms of navigation.

I updated it through the soft-mod tutorial in the DIY section as well. Took a while doing backups though, worth it.

Sadly I can't go to that avic411 site. Avast keeps blocking it like mad.

Can you link the thread in the DIY section, I can't find it and I want to update my maps.

Edit: Nevermind, it's for Canadian only :|

The other day I'm using my nav to get me to north Jersey, nav is trying to direct me to a parkway entrance (which is good). I enter the parkway from a rest stop (not a legitimate entrance), now the nav is trying to take me off the parkway to direct me to a parkway entrance. Wtf? biggest pos nav I've ever used. Google maps is always spot on, I'm tempted to get an android head unit just to have a functioning nav, it's inane to have to use my phone for directions. I don't understand how I'm like the only one with an issue. Can someone who is happy with their nav post their software/map versions? Something has to be off. My car was mfg in 04/2013.

Here's mine, in radio go to info>software version:
Nav 15:50/30.07 9.2.2.250040
Audio 08/07/2012 Ver.44.1004

Is there a way to get rid of the "I agree" screen on every startup? I like to leave my nav on, but hate pressing the softkey every time I start the car.

No. The lawyers engineer cars these days.

It is an acknowledgment that using a touch screen while actually driving is distracting, very dangerous and should be illegal.

Some jurisdictions disable driver input to nav while the vehicle is in motion (even if a passenger could operate it) but not other equally distracting screen function such as tuning the radio, adjusting the heating or making a phone call.
