Does changing fog light to LED render its use nonfunctional?

I wanted to match the fog light with the headlight, so I got some LEDs but it doesn't seem to light up much when driving. I'm thinking about switching to amber LEDs, wondering if that'll do anything but I'm doubting it.

LEDs in fog lights will almost never be functional, but they'll look great

i find the BRZ foglights pretty non-functional anyway. a few weeks ago we had some early morning pre-dawn fog, and they didn't make a difference when turning them on and off.

i never have them on anyways, because i hate the stock bulb colour. i just ordered some amber LED replacements from diode dynamics. i'm not going to use them as fog lights, but as additional front marker lights, which will hopefully make my car stand out more from oncoming traffic and catch people's attention when turning left in front of me.

on my motorcycle i had one yellow headlamp and one white, and it really helped set it apart from the sea of white lights.

What LED's were you unhappy with? I want to change mine to color match the headlights better.

LEDs won't give you much in terms of usable light output, they are intended primarily for cosmetic purposes.

If you want output AND cosmetic appearance HID is the best route to take.

Our 6000K HIDs match our LEDs very closely! Our switchback LEDs also match our 6000K HIDs. Check out @supra2nv as he has done switchbacks + 6000K HIDs

In the context of cars (in general), they render the fog lights non-functional.

In the context of our cars, the fog lights are non-functional to begin with.

I have the Diode Dynamics stage II amber LED fog lights on my car and it works great for what I wanted it to do. The factory bulbs were useless for functional purposes.

HID's though....HID's are bright enough to provide some additional usable output

I think guys with BRZs are okay, as the factory HIDs have plenty of light. I found zero issues with seeing the road on a drive from LA to Jackson WY and back this past weekend.

Can't say anything about FRS as I have had no experience with the factory halogens.

I've got some 6000k LED's from HID powerhouse that are really bright to match my HID's. Much of a difference with the fog's on or off? Slightly. I run my fogs full time with my lights because my turn signals only come on for signaling.
