Getting Tint tomorrow, does whole third brake light unit have to come off?

I'm watching this video:[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHwhM5UWpZU&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]How to remove third brake light Subaru BRZ 2012 - YouTube[/ame]

And the guy says the actual unit after removing the light piece is pretty hard to remove. Will thst piece need to come off when doing the Tint? Just concerned that the Tint place may force it and break the piece. With our cars being relatively new still, I just want to be sure.

How will they do the windows as well, since it has the auto down feature when you open the door?

no need. if the installer has good tools and experience, he can work along the third brake light assembly.

my installer did a perfect job without removing the unit.

as for the auto window, he can put a tape like blue tape to hold the senor down

^ What he said. A good tint guy shouldn't have to take it out.

With the auto window they will also use a heat gun to heat the window to help evaporate the liquid from between the tint and glass so the tint fully adheres right away. If they don't getting in and out of your car the first couple days will cause issues with the tint.

I just removed the cover for them. They had a little bit of difficulty getting the tint to adhere above the light assembly, but it eventually dried without any gaps or air bubbles.

The guys who installed my tint removed it. Honestly, if they bump it hard enough it will break. It's a good preventative measure, and it's not like you're doing the work.

They did not remove mine and the tint came out just fine with no damage to the light.

They can do it both ways, with or without, but my tint guy always takes them off to make sure the tint is perfectly good and to save him the hassle of putting the tint around the brake light.

i ended up taking it off myself, but now i'm having some trouble lining up the two pieces :/ will try a bit more later.

the tint shop said they worked on a few FR-S and BRZs for the dealership so that eased me a bit.
