Will retrofit your headlights for free (read more inside)
Mods: I don't know exactly where to post this, but please move it to the proper section if deemed necessary.
http://retrosmiths.com/img/frs/g37_retrofit/1.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...oadlowbeam.jpg I've done quite a bit of retrofit projects in my spare time and I'm looking to move to the next level by trying to retrofit quality projectors (ones better than the BRZ/GT86) to our headlights. I'm looking at FX-R's or TL's. Problem? I no longer have a spare set of headlights to use, I can't afford downtime with my daily driver, and I'm in a bit of financial crisis. So, if you have a spare set of headlights, say from switching to the GT86 ones, I'll retrofit your spares for free, if you'll ship me the headlights and pay for the retrofit materials needed. All I want is the experience and technique to do this, and I believe I'm more than halfway there already. What can you get from this? Labor-free retrofit. Heck, I'll even paint the inner assembly of your headlights if you want, while we're at it. :w00t: I'm in the SoCal/LA area, so meetups are preferred, unless you're willing to ship your items here at your cost. PS: All those headlights in the website were already sold. |
"Awesome" comes to mind.

You think that the FX-R (a replica of an older bixenon FX35/45 projector) is going to be better than the BRZ's bixenon projectors? You do realize that the BRZ uses RX350 bixenons, which should still be a top dog in terms of light output, width of light output, color flicker (with clear lens), and size. I imagine the GT86 HID headlights use the RX350 as well.
If you can fit the TL bixenons in our headlights, which will be a stretch, you may have something. |

On a note with this, we have a brand new retrofit kit laying around (Morimoto stuff; HID kit, halos, all necessary retrofit components, etc.) that we want to sell. Normally $375 for this kit through them...we are open to offers if someone wants this kit, and to have the OP install it :) Good luck with your endeavors, @retrosmiths

I've also driven my 2010 Honda Accord with TSX projector retrofit (Matsushita ballasts, Osram CBI D2S bulbs, clear lens), 2003 BMW 330xi with RX330 projector retrofit (E30 clear lens, Philips 85122+ bulbs), and 2001 Honda Civic with Valeo H7, then Valeo D2S, then ZKW bixenon retrofit. Like I said, if you can somehow shoehorn the massive TL bixenon into the tiny headlight assemblies we have, you'd have a hot seller. The Morimoto stuff, while I support theretrofitsource 100%, is a cheap Chinese made product that is heavily marketed as being the best on the market. The Mini H1 suffers from heavy foreground lighting, FX-R has laser beams (unless they fixed that in version 11.whatever), the EvoX-R is a joke, blah blah blah. They are a good gateway product, but can't touch the OEM stuff. Anyways, /diatribe. *dismounts from horse* Good luck with your retrofit stuff. |

Maybe with a better lens the BRZ would perform better, but as stock from the factory, it's lacking alot:iono: |
@infinite012: I agree with @Gixxersixxerman, even the Mini's blow the stock BRZ out the water. But I do agree with one of your points, the EvoX-R sucks (it has weird streaks in the foreground). My modded stock FRS projectors have more intense foreground than the Mini H1 5.0, while the 3.0 FX-R's are currently the best bang for the buck I can get that's not a Mini.

TRS said there wasn't a big difference between the 5.0 and the 6.0.. But it was so much of a difference to me that I swapped them out... Once photobucket starts working with iOS 7 again, I'll post my photos
|
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the subtle improvement from 5.0 to 6.0.

Thats really nice of you man
Too bad i live in canada lol Don't feel like shipping and not being able to drive since the frs is my dd |
That's great to hear the Mini H1 getting updates. Now if only they would give the same treatment to the Mini D2S so we can use D2S bulbs.
I think the "problem" with the BRZ's headlights is that the bulbs are D4S. They're not as intense while warming up, but after a couple minutes (like 10 minutes, really), they are brighter/wider than my TSX+CBI combo. |
