FR-S Cracking Tail Light Lense

2 Attachment(s)
So i have had my FR-S for about 3 months now and just over 1100 miles on it and went to wash my car and as i was drying it off i noticed my driver side tail light was splitting around the bottom part of the light and on the top where the two pieces are seamed together. Took it to the dealership where i bought the car and talked to service about getting it replaced because i heard they had issues with condensation in the lights. Well they sat there looking at my lens and telling me that something must have hit it to cause the cracks. So they took some pictures and now they area rep is coming to look at it. Anyone else having this issue with their taillights separating and cracking?

It looks like something rammed into it upwards breaking the bottom area of the lens. I hope the rep gives you the benefit of the doubt here and realizes it was you or your fault.

That is what I am worried about. I take extreme care of my cars. This is my 4th scion and never had any issues till my FR-S. Had a quarter size dent in my roof on delivery and now this cracked lens. If something did hit it I don't know what I could have been. There isn't a single mark anywhere on the lens or bumper.

Hello Jonathan, how did this story end in 2013?

I got the exact same problem (very similar to your pics, a pitty I didn't take some) also on the drivers side of the Toyota GT86 and since it was bought used the dealer started by writing it off as "someone must have hit it" and "it was previously repaired/repainted/replaced".

Fortunatelly I insisted a bit and they checked for repaint work and removed the rear bumper and lights to check for repairs and/or signs of unusual pressure applied to the components.
Since they found none I'm getting the cracked part replaced under warranty.

It's noteworthy to point out that, although there's a TSB for Scion FRS regarding this issue, the dealer stated this doesn't apply for European models as its production is different from North America.

The things some dealerships will say to avoid doing the work...

I got the lights replaced under warranty.
Since I had to wait 2 days for the part here are 2 photos.

As you can see, factoring out car color, the pics are very similar to OP's.
