Autocar turbo fr-s vs mclaren mp4-12c

Autocar did a comparison of a turbo fr-s and a mclaren mp4-12c. Should be interesting...

I was hoping they would use both cars with the same driver, then post the lap times, I know the mp is faster, but how much?

Great video.

A good deal faster. Its a silly comparison. Downright stupid actually. In every performance aspect the McLaren is faster.

But it should be faster, it costs orders of magnitude more money...

Definitely ridiculous, but flattering as well

Talk about whoring to sell magazines.

wrxgoose 08-30-2013 05:59 PM

they wanna test the MC against a fast 86, how bout the Crawford?

Diode Dynamics 08-30-2013 06:02 PM

I'd take the MP 10/10 times, even if the FRS was twin turbo'd and s/c'd

That McLaren is amazing!

Timed laps saw the GT86R put in a faster lap time.

Adrian posted them on the UK forum:
Std 86 51.9
Street Turbo 49.1
Mclaren MP4 46.2
.GT86R ..... 45.9

Clearly it was a short and twisty circuit and he admits that the McLaren was faster on the straights. The R was also on 888's and all the sideways action was for the camera and not on the timed laps.

Same driver for both?

The mp4 sucks and is so artificial ! A turbod 86 would be way more fun :)

WhiteRose 08-30-2013 07:26 PM

I would probably take a mclaren over the fr-s then sell it to buy any car I want!!! Bwahahaha

Remember, lightened GT86 (1120kg, about 220lbs lighter) with slicks and 300+ hp, track suspension, vs. 1339kg McLaren on street tires. The McLaren has a better hp/weight ratio, but not by a lot (compared to that turbo GT86), and this wasn't a drag race, this was a circuit race. Getting good times at the circuit isn't just about hp, that's only a small part of the equation. A FR-S/BRZ in street trim, on street legal tyres, would get ripped a new one around that circuit by the Fensport car, even if they had 400/500/600+ hp.
