Forum Suggestion: A "Private" racing section

A private section where users could post their racing videos would be a great addition to the site. Has worked great on sites like Club Lexus and would be awesome here considering the popularity of the platform.

You are basically asking for a non-public street racing section?

Don't know if that will go over well here. There are plenty of honest track guys here and they don't seem to need anything private.

Private street racing section would pretty much mean that admin is condoning what is widely regarded as dangerous and irresponsible behaviour and already against forum policy.

Shoulda got an Si

leon78 08-29-2013 08:52 PM

That would imply that our cars are fast....

Lol @ the aint street racing stand.

Why has anyone gone FI?

Because they sure as shit aren't track cars; 400hp on street tyres, 12kg rims and uprated brake pads.

I dont care so much about street drag racing; heck 1/4mile is cheap no brainer.

But canyon/hill driving. Love.

That said I can understand why forum needs to make a stand on it. If there was a private section, it would have to be super exclusive. 200 post / 50 thank count or something similar.

No, it would just mean that an admin would allow videos found on the net. This is the only forum I know of that completely bans certain racing videos and the forum suffers for it IMO. Increased traffic is pretty much the only byproduct of adding the section.

I don't see how the 'forum suffers' from not promoting street racing. :iono:

Why is it so important for you to have a private street racing section?

Loss of the increased traffic due to the section. And having the section does not "promote" street racing.

Not sure where you get that im stressing the "Importance" of the section. Im stating the the section would be a good addition to the forum, nothing more nothing less. Just like a NWS section... If you dont want to see it then dont look at it.

Think of it from a liability point of view. You're involved in an accident while drag racing and your passenger John ends up being a quad with unimaginable medical and care expenses in the future. John's wife sues you because of your negligence and is awarded your policy limits which is $100,000.00. That would probably cover the costs for John's medical and care for about one year. What does his wife do after that? She goes after any one or thing that might have contributed to the accident her husband was involved in. What's that? A car forum the driver belonged to promoted street racing! Wow, sue them because they promoted racing which could be construed as contributing to this accident and certainly there was no negligence on John so likely it's a win situation. The court would probably award an amount of money that would be sufficient to take care of John the rest of his life.

This isn't the only forum I've been a member of that bans street racing videos. To be completely honest I don't think the forum suffers from it at all. Increased traffic might be good, but quality over quantity imo. I'm don't want to lump them all together into one group, but a lot of the street racing crowd are a bunch of d-bags with no consideration for others on the road, and that mentality reflects on the forum when such posts are made.

I understand where your trying to go, but thats honestly laughable if you think its going to stand up in court. Allowing someone to post something is not considered an endorsement or a promotion. If that logic were the case, nearly every internet forum would be sued on a daily basis considering that the false endorsement or promotion can/will be construed in countless ways.
Going by my understanding of your logic, the victims of any crime should sue pretty much all media outlets, the manufacturers of all the products they consume and use, and even the government for their contributions to the accident. Car manufacturers do not get sued for producing vehicles that can surpass the speed limit, and CNN does not get sued if someone decides to copycat a crime...

But then why the need to make it a private section? That would be an acknowledgement that it needs to be hidden as well that admin is protecting the participants.

There is a reason you couldn't even come out and ask for a street racing section straight up. 'Certain' racing videos are banned?

It's true she might not necessarily win but she would be a fool for not trying and I don't think the owners of a site would be willing to risk it. Allowing conversations about racing is one thing. Starting a sub-forum that some might say encourages racing might be looked at a little differently. Those types of decisions are usually made by juries.

It does not need to be hidden or private. The privacy recommendation is based off the same reasoning that a NWS section is private

If you think im asking for a street racing section then you should read the discussion again so that you can get a better grasp on what is being asked. Im pretty sure that if I were to post a video of an Albanian death race where both time and murderous kills were taken into consideration when deciding a winner, the video would be taken down with considerable haste.

Definitely understand where your coming from, but this type of case isn't reasonable IMO. It would be happening 24/7 if lawyers thought the case was winnable. But at the end of the day, you can pretty much sue anyone on the basis of anything if your willing to put up the funds.
