Buzzing noise from rear pass wheel area when parked

Over the last weekend I washed my car and when I got to the rear passenger wheel area I noticed a faint buzzing noise. At first I thought the tire might be leaking air but then realized it was some sort of electric buzzing, almost like a small pump. I didn't have the key on me and the car had been parked for over an hour.

Then again tonight I went out to put something in the truck and noticed it was doing it again. I hadn't driven it for over 4 hours!

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, do you have any idea what is making the noise? It may be totally normal operation, but I don't want to come out to the car one day only to find the battery dead from running some pump for no reason.

Any thoughts?

Thanks - Peter

Yes I went out in the middle of the night a couple weeks ago and heard this. No idea what it is but I forgot to even mention it on here

holy crap, read your manual. Or search here for the 9844546546 threads about this already.

FYI, copy and paste from BRZ manual page 14.

Quote:

Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine
Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound
coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel
evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.

That messed with me a few weeks ago...it's crazy but normal...I feel like for all the other freakin warning decals on the car THIS actually needs a warning or at least more than a one line mention in the book.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know it's just normal.

Freetime - Settle down man. I read my manual cover to cover when I bought the car in December. Must have just forgotten this part since I hadn't experienced it yet. Thanks for the response:).

Thanks for this post. I've already gotten used to the crickets, so when my wife called me out to the garage to check on a mysterious noise coming from the right rear wheel, I was not happy. I love my car, and I'm so relieved there is nothing wrong.
