What is this plug & this connector for? (FR-S, stock HU)

So I did some forum searching trying to figure this out but didn't get anywhere... apologies if it has been answered already.

I was wiring up a sub to the stock HU and noticed a connector on the stock HU was unplugged. The HU came out pretty easy so I don't think I yanked any cables out of the back.

Upon searching for any loose cables/harnesses/etc., I noticed a connector pretty far back just sitting there. It's taped up pretty well so there's not enough slack for it to reach the HU and it doesn't look like the plug would fit anyway.

Can anyone clue me in as to what the plug and the connector are for?
:thanks:

I'm guessing it's something that just isn't used in this car. Like a 6-disc changer or something. It's probably used in other Scion cars.

Can you take a picture showing the actual wires [colors] attached to that additional plug, that might help with determine what it's used for.

Looks like the speaker wire harness to me: I took some pictures of mine when I changed head units.

All the plugs in your pictures are on my head unit. :iono:

I'll pull the HU out again and try to take a bit more detailed picture...
stay tuned

Edit: Here's the plug & the corresponding wire colors going to it.

I'm guessing maybe it's for Sirius/XM? I just realized I have the option for XM but my car doesn't have a built-in receiver.

It sure does! I'm just one of those curious folk that want to know why something in my car isn't connected. :)

Yeah that's probably it. My Altima had an empty port that was for the other trims that had sat radio or cd changers.

It's listed in the schematics as "option connector", D29. The pink and blue wires are CAN bus, orange is B+ (fused through the dome lamp fuse), black/yellow is ground, red/black is accessory power (radio fuse).

Don't know what the 'option' would be for, though.

Looks like a Subwoofer connector (looks the same on the scion tC)

Alrighty. Thanks for the help! I'll just keep on ignoring them, then. :)

No reason for an audio connector to have CAN bus data. Might be the same physical connector part, though.

If I was guessing, I'd say it's potentially for diagnostics...maybe like that multifunction pod that turbo Cobalts and HHRs had as an option? Can't think of much else that would require switched power and CAN data....and nothing else.

does anybody knows where to buy a male connector for the D29 connector ?
this connector offer some great cable with constant ant switched power, plus can high and can low.

Did you look on the top of the HU? there should be a diagram sticker of what the plugs are
