How noticeable is 30whp?
Considering going with an E85 tune next year (basically stock now). It's a lot of money, though, so I was just wondering if the difference is actually noticeable? It seems like a pretty decent jump, but I just wanted to get some first-hand experience before starting to save up for it.
Note - just going by FA20Club's estimated gain of 30whp with this tune |
Heck, I only put a Perrin Catback on my car and I can feel the what little bit it provides! I'm sure that 30 would be a nice blast!

Depending on the dyno.. 30 whp is more like 40 crank hp. These cars dyno an average of 160whp so 30whp would be about a 20% increase in power. Long story short, it is very noticeable assuming you fully use what you have now. |
Assuming AC drains about 10% of your power when on, any seasoned driver can feel a difference in power. with a 20% or so gain, I don't know how you can miss it.

It depends on where 30whp is delivered.
i.e. 30whp at 7000 rpm, when you really take your car over 4500rpm will not really be noticed. It is also important to note that an extra 30whp on a 2800lb car is significantly different than 30whp on a 3800lb car. Equally important is that 30whp gained on a 160whp car is a massive percentage of the cars original output. |
I threw a lightweight flywheel, stronger clutch, and 4.67 final gears in mine and that's good for about 14% on paper at all RPMs. It was absolutely noticeable and took the sluggishness out of the car.
I haven't touched the ECU. |
I have about 200whp over stock. Feels like a vette

Yeah, yeah. I am on a much tighter budget at the moment. Figured I'd start with a tune, since anything added afterwards can be enhanced with a retune (or, anything major would require a tune anyway).
Thanks for all of the comments - looks like I'll have to start saving my pennies. |
Im upgrading my intake and full exhaust first then ill slap on the tune and feel the power all at once. Cant wait! Headers on order, trd air filter, perrin lw crank pulley and intake tube as well as the nameless axle back. I just need to get the nameless overpipe and then ill get tuned.

Oh and light weight crank pulley! |

Even a pump gas tune changes the power delivery of the car significantly. I love running my car on e85, have only run 93 once in a long trip since tuning for e85.
