Hey Guys, Mustang owner here with an Deposit Order in
Hello all, well I guess I'm in an enviable position because I know a lot of you are trying to decide between either a Mustang or this car. My other car, which is actually now paid off and which I'm keeping, is a 2005 Mustang GT. I bought it the year it came out with the new retro body style. All the options, red. So I've got the 300+ HP 4.6 V8, does 0 to 60 in around 5.1 and I've got the automatic.
I just ordered myself a Scion FR-S in Firestorm, which I am tremendously happy about. Let me give you some perspective into why I ordered this car. I love my Mustang to death, I wouldn't ever sell it, it's in beautiful condition. Things I love doing with it include gunning it around corners way too fast, hitting the gas and hearing the V8, squealing the tires, doing loud rumbly doughnuts in parking lots, basically everything you see teens do in the movies with V8 Mustangs, I do. I DRIVE my cars, I don't baby them, but I do get them detailed every year and I keep them meticulously. So the question is, is there a tangible experience driving a V8 RWD Mustang. The answer to that is ABSOLUTELY. BUT... And here comes the but. See I grew up in the 80s and the 90s. When I grew up cars were much lighter, much smaller, and had less horsepower, but were more fun to drive. My Mustang while it is undeniably fun to drive, it still feels, EVEN WITH a huge V8, like I'm in the command of a machine that feels much larger than me. Not like I'm the driver, but that I'm in command of a fricking rocket powered tank. Whereas the cars that I grew up with and learned to drive with felt more like a part of me. There is something substantial about lower weight, smaller size, that lends to dramatic differences in feel. That's what I would tell everybody on here that keeps going back to horsepower numbers. I've got a taste of both, will have both, and always feel more connected and one with cars like the Scion. Why did I order this FR-S the moment it came out? $25K for a 2700 lb car these days, that's RWD, and looks like this, and drives like this is an UNBELIEVABLE STEAL. If you were to look at numbers, you would never understand. But I'm telling you, for anybody that drove cars in the 80s and 90s before they become long, bloated, heavy, and needed bigger and bigger engines to go fast, you'll instantly know what I'm talking about. THIS is a car that I can fall in love with, the way I fell in love with my first cars. The Mustang is what I go hooning with. |
Well i can tell you right now your probably going to get alot of hate for this post just because it generally screams "RICE FAST". If your looking for power i can definately tell you this car is not for you, though the handling is great its not a power oriented car. Mainly its for someone who can enjoy the pure sports car feel and really appreciate a car for what it really is. If your planning on using this as your daily driver id say congratulations, but if your looking for GO, id say wait about a year or two (if not sooner) for the aftermarket to get a little more populated for performance.
Though despite everything else, no one can really convince you of what you truly want but yourself. Personally im on the same boat with you on the classic 90's era in cars, truly one of the greatest decades for sport cars and performance. If you really want the car man, id say congratulations :burnrubber::clap: P.S: Keep our insurance rates low bruh |
Exhaust: Did you even bother to read his post? You are replying to stuff he never asked.
He actually GETS it, unlike the people he's talking about in here. |

Welcome to a fellow '05 Mustang owner and future FR-S owner. I have a V6 convertible in the permanent stable myself. (I wanted the GT, wife wanted the convertible more and it was her car so she wins).
Red FR-S will be mine and mostly for the same reasons you list. Maybe we'll need to start a FRStang club! |

But comparison wise thats a little out of the question isnt it? handle wise the FRS excels, power wise its a whole new ballpark... |

Must... resist... transmission snobbery Glad to see you're a convert, I hope you enjoy the FR-S as much as you're hoping to :D |

great post. who'da thunk, an enthusiast that can appreciate both types of cars.

I completely agree with what you're saying about the size and weight but

You can very easily buy a v6 mustang for 25k these days, it would be rather well equipped too. The market average (truecar.com) mustangs sell for in my area is $21,180 |

Hell if the BRZ ends up being 30k I'm seriously looking at a 2000 Cobra R instead. Found one that's actually been driven for 31k asking... |
Nice. Welcome.
I'm working on trading my 2008 Z06 for a 2013 Mustang Boss. I preordered the FR-S for my fiance. After seeing and sitting in the FR-S, I'm a little tempted to just get a 2nd one for myself and saving $20k vs the Boss, but I think it would be redundant having 2 in our household and I REALLY like Mustangs and the motor they put in the Boss. I think with an FR-S and Boss, we can have the best of both worlds. |
Another stang-er here. Just got rid of my beloved 93 GT...not as much of a beast as your 05, but I loved the car. I do still have a 68 mustang convertible as a permanent fixture in the stable.
I'm hoping the FRS (or BRZ) will be my next ride...looking for more of that connected feel you are talking about that comes with the lighter weight and smaller size. Hopefully I can get used to the drop in torque-iness. |
