Drag Oriented Suspension
 

Are there any " drag oriented " suspension setups out there for the brz/frs yet?

I know most will autocross this car but for the people who are trying to set 1/4 mile records with the twins, can you shed any insight?

I've a few drag videos of the brz/frs and traction even with a decent tire seems to be an issue. I'm curious about this subject and would like to learn more. :thanks:

SOFT rates in the back, let all weight transfer to the rear tires. You might have to play with dampening rates and even suspension geometry to keep wheel hop in check though.

U dont want soft in the rear. U gonna get mad wheel hop. N dont go with low pros either.

Ur gonna actually want to stiffen ur suspension. And make the tires stick. If u have lower spring rates its gonna let the tires come off the ground. Our diff bushings suck. Im putting in megan solid diff bushings in. Better to run with stock tires over low pro. Not enuff side wall to take the launch. Ull get alot of wheel hop from the low pros. Im switching to 225/45-17 tire. I was running with my show wheels which I put a 2653518 tire on at 35 psi n even at a 3k launch it seemed like my tranny broke. So much wheel hop. The 2254517 will bring my sidewall about .5 inch from stock. Hopefully itll help with the wheel hop. This is all from my experience. So I guess just test it out and set it up to what u think will help.

I'd say the STI arms offered by RCE would help with the wheel hop as well, or at least some stiffer bushings.

Don't confuse spring rates and damper rates... stiff rear springs won't let weight transfer back and will hurt traction. You might not get wheel hop, but you'll definitely have less grip.

Soft springs with stiffer dampening will allow weight transfer but will dampen wheel hop. I would suggest fixing the wheel hop with bushings before running stiffer rear springs.

You're right on the tires though, you NEED softer sidewalls and ideally a lot less air pressure than you'd run on the street. If I was serious about drag times I would run 15's in the back with proper drag radials. Tires meant for autox/lapping/time attack are way too stiff in the sidewall for a good drag launch.

I just want to do fun runs. Not to serious. I want to run with what I woukd be on the streets. So no drag tires for me. I want it as real as possible. Meaning im not gonna drive my car with lower air so ill be running on my stock 17s with 35 psi. Lol

Nothing wrong with that as long as you're aware (which you seem to be) of the limitations of a setup like that. You can still have tons of fun.
