Why Japanese Cars Only Use English Badges
|
Interesting article, I think it hit on a big reason I've never heard expressed before.
I have heard fairly often that western characters are seen as "cool" in Japan (just like people here will get kanji tattoos). And it is sometimes hip to use the western loan words rather than original Japanese words sometimes. (The Japanese language has adopted many English words over the years) Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4 |

I find that interesting but I have a little bit of a different twist on the reason why. Even though it is diminishing with time, there has been and probably will be for a long time a bit of a stigma about buying Japanese products. Not only were they known for years (a long time ago) for building inferior products, the remnants of World War 2 hasn't gone far enough into the history books to not have an impact on some peoples attitude towards buying Japanese products. If they used Japanese characters to tag their cars that would only take the stigma a giant step further and I'm sure it would have even a more negative impact on their sales figures. As Charles Barkley said: "I may be wrong but I doubt it".
