Brake Duct options?
I've seen the APR option, looks great and I'm sure fits great.
Has anyone used the factory damn and cut out in between the "honeycomb" and made something themselves? |
Buy the foglight bezels and there youll have a hole already to plug in the duct hoses
Bezels are dirt cheap around $12 bucks each. |
I think the issue is the big washer fluid tank. This is exactly why I want to get the TMG washer fluid tank.

My concern w/ the APR duct kit is the position of the air outlet. A lot of research seems to indicate cooling the back of the rotor surface rather than the central hub area of on top where the vanes are is less than ideal and could even hurt the rotor by causing uneven temps between front and back possibly leading to cracks or warping. Even talked about this w/ JRitt from Essex and we both agreed it's no easy application to deal with due to the limited amount of space on the back plate, so can't really blame APR for trying. What needs to happen is the hose needs to angle better toward the hub to reshape airflow so the central vortex can better evenly distribute cooler air.
The best solution for the 86 I've seen is the Essex Endurance bracket. Sadly, nothing is or likely will be available for the Sprint kit though I understand the reason why. |
I have the APR solution installed and I do want to drop two notes on the system.
1.) The silicon hosing that APR ships with the rotor backing plate is a little too large in diameter. I ran with 245/40/17 tires on 17x9 +45 offset wheels and the hosing got eaten up from tire rubbing. @robispec is running smaller hosing and he seems to be having no issues as far as I know. 2.) As Hanakusa states, the washer bottle can be an issue on the driver's side duct. I believe APR recommends running the hosing up through the engine bay to get around it but if you're going to go FI like I am, this will not do as it may put the hosing too close to a turbo or another high heat source. I opted to just remove the washer bottle and route the hosing straight to the wheel well. |

Anyone know the brand of these ducts? I plan on getting a brz and swapping to an frs bumper and dont want to go through the trouble of wiring the fogs. |

I then used the dremel to cut slots in the plastic inner fender to channel air to the backside of the wheel. I don't like the APR kit for the reason that it is directing air at the back of the rotor face, and not to the center of the rotor, where it is dispersed out through the veins in the center of the rotor, cooling both sides of the rotor rather than just the back side. That's why I went the Touge Factory kit; it was the only kit that I could find that does this, which is the most efficient way to cool rotors.
