Rear-Ended in a parking lot (CMON LADY!!!!)
 

So I was parked in my city (Berkeley) during a busy time and I had a really bad feeling about this parking. It had enough room on each side, but for some reason I just felt like the driver was going to hit my behind but didn't have time to find parking as I was in a rush to get to class (mistake). I get back to my car and $#%&!!!!!!

The driver had screwed in two nails holding her license plate, purchased at home depot, and pierced my rear plastic piece (luckily didn't touch paint). I was wondering what are my options, I left a note but the driver hasn't called and I'm thinking of not even going through insurance since she can just say that she didn't do it.

Obviously have full coverage but I'm thinking if the OEM piece is cheap enough, I'll just buy it on my own or opt-out for the carbon fiber version. Here are some pictures

Edit: The marks look huge in the pictures but they aren't bigger than the size of a quarter.

Not sure about pricing, but found it on that page.

From what I understand, that plastic piece is part of the rear bumper. Meaning it might not be as easy as replacing just that plastic. If you go down that route, the whole bumper will need to be replaced.

Here's an idea.. One I'm contemplating myself. Look up your nearest line-x dealer. Have them tape off the painted area, sand down the black plastic area a bit and spray a nice 40-60 mil layer of the stuff.

Same thing happened to me - The plastic is part of a one piece bumper. The entire bumper needs to be replaced and painted.
I went to my insurance co. recommended body shop - 2 GRAND to install and paint a $300 ish toyota part !

If I went into a body shop and told them I was paying (not an insurance job) it would have been half that !

So I got the OK from the adjuster to order the Seibon carbon fiber diffuser cover cause my guy would charge much less to install it. The insurance co. jumped on saving over a grand .

If you do get a stick on cover - no need for rivets or screws - just use high temp silicone (I used silicone gasket maker) .

Use all of 2 large tubes, press fit and pull away to aerate - clamp on 24 to 48 hrs. according to temperature.

The gloss carbon fiber is gorgeous - deep 3-d and black , gold, silver color changing effect.

Some Seibon parts have been known to be delivered warped - mine was a tight fit but was true.

Consult with bumper repair mechanic. It is little one don't worry. With hot rod you can manage it some way.
