The truth behind the option to dealers to eliminate the scion part
They said to many dealers and scions are spread out to far. They don't make enough scions for all current dealers so they want to e linage about half the scion dealers so most likely the dealer will have the color/car/options you want. They can't support it with so many dealers carrying it.

Proof or just your thoughts in general?:iono:

It was an interview in an Rticle that was on yahoo today. Couldn't link it due to the fact I read it on my phone.

It sounds plausible, but I'd say the bigger problem is not allowing dealers to order specific cars. If it wasn't always a crap-shoot as to who gets what it would also solve the problem.
I know the olden days of placing an order with the factory aren't really tenable with Toyota's manu techniques - it sure made it easier for the buyer willing to wait just a little bit. |

The bigger issue with a lot of dealers is the requirement to give up a chunk of your showroom space for a relatively low volume brand. In our old showroom, we could fit 3 cars. Per the Scion covenant, one of them had to be a Scion. Not so much of a problem now in our 70,000 sq ft new building that can hold one of everything - about 24 cars.
At that time we were selling approx 380-400 new Toyota's a month. Maybe 25-30 Scions. Some dealer principals aren't really too thrilled about having to spend a bunch of cash on a very small portion of their business. There are several Scion dealers in my region that sell single digit numbers of cars a month. There's a solid number that don't move ANY. |
i saw this on AutoBlog last week
