Grinding sound under acceleration
First off, I love this beast of a car!
I have a weird issue with my car and an appointment with the dealership tomorrow but I'm curious of your opinions. While in gear, usually second or third, over 3500 rpm, I get a brief grinding sound during acceleration. The tach needle jumps a few hundred rpm then drops and acceptation happens as normal. The car was a demo with 500km when I got it, now there are 1300km (two weeks old). It's far from my first manual transmission, been driving stick for 10yrs. What could it be? |
I have a similar issue. Should post a video!

Do you notice the noise in the engine bay or at the wheels?

Bad/slipping clutch with chatter would be my diagnosis. Should be inspected by dealer.

Initially was brief sounds and "slips" of power. Then the grinding sounds started to sound louder and louder until few weeks later it just outright started slipping. It was a bad transfer case. In a British car that wouldn't surprise, since those mofos don't get along with engineering, but in a Subaru/Toyota...hmmm...it's hard to believe. Anyways, might be a different sound, but if you see your tach jumping, you feel a brief slip of power and the grinding noise comes when there is acceleration (regardless of the gear) then that sounds exactly what happened to my Range Rover transfer case. |
