Tapped Ass

I was stopped at a toll plaza on the NJ Turnpike a few weeks ago and was hit from behind by a Camry. Not very hard at all, but enough to move me slightly forward and to leave 2 dents in the rear black skirt of my car from his plate bolts. Police tried to dissuade me from making a report because he said my car would have an accident on it's carfax report. Told me to try to deal directly with the driver. When I told him he didn't speak english, and could not produce a license, he changed his tune.

So now I have to go to the dealer and see what replacing the rear skirt will cost. It's minor, but crap, it's just a year old!

Same type of damage when I hurt mine... They have to replace the whole bumper since it is one piece. I believe I paid right near $600 for a new cover, paint, install. Hope this helps!

I have to say, that's shockingly cheap for what I would have thought it would cost.

Did the police officer "deal" with the illegal?

Also, was this person not able, or not willing, to speak English? (sometimes they pretend not to speak English because they dont want to deal with you but if you get law enforcement involved they suddenly can speak English, this happened to me back in 2004).

As for the bumper if you could get some money out of the person then I would replace it, otherwise I would forget it.

I must agree... I was expecting A LOT more, but since it was cosmetic and the actual bumper was fine it worked out. Plus the local body shop did a great job. I honestly cannot tell that I had a new cover put on!

I have the same type of damage but I didn't do anything about it because I did not know who did it

That's too bad .....:(

You might consider asking a PDR person if they could tap it back into shape.

Such a minor thing makes it an eyesore. Hope you get everything resolved.

Agree with Vivid 10000000%... When driving all I could think about was that damn damage. Good luck getting a quick repair! I had to pocket my repairs because I was the one who hurt my car. Why you'd install a black knee level pole in the ground behind a parking spot I don't know... If only I'd had a backup cam! :P

I agree with the cop. Such a minor thing will look so ugly on a history report. If you know you'll be keeping it forever though, screw it.

As long as the damaged is fixed with OEM parts, it should not affect the trade in/resell value too much.

Last car I tried to trade in that had repaired body damage (no replaced panels) they offered 2k less than what I sold private party, and I sold it cheap so probably 3k or more if I put more time into it.

I rolled back into a square box around a pipe in a parking deck. I barely tapped it, got out and looked couldn't see any damage. Next day when it was sunny out I went to wash my car and saw a little tiny spot almost like a rock chip. Waxed it out and never parked in that spot again. Why would you put a square box around a pipe?

Don't repair it!!!! The new bumper will never look right. Get yourself a swanky carbon fiber cover or something for the black part.
