ATE Super Blue - stock up while you can

US has determined blue brake fluid is not legal (or just decided to enforce that anyway)

Does this mean PMU G-Four is gonna get banned too?

Endless fluid?

Hanakuso 08-16-2013 02:43 PM

So I'm going to guess if you keep using it, warranty is voided for the brake system?

OrbitalEllipses 08-16-2013 02:49 PM

I saw this on NASIOC last night...still can't believe it. Pretty dumb.

Interesting point. Guess if there is a brake issue make sure you drain before taking the car in.

I think people are making a big deal out of this for no reason. Yes, blue fluids are convenient, but I don't buy my brake fluid because of color, I buy it based on temp range and usage scenario.

The requirement for brake fluid color, in case anyone wonders:

Quote:

S5.1.14 Fluid color. Brake fluid and hydraulic system mineral oil shall be of the color indicated:
DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 non-SBBF—colorless to amber.
DOT 5 SBBF—purple.
Hydraulic system mineral oil—green.

Can't the company just produce it in fluorescent green?

G_Ride 08-16-2013 04:05 PM

ATE can still sell the Type 200 fluid. It has the same specs as super blue but amber colored.

We know that. It just made brake jobs easier with blue

very convenient to switch between super blue and type 200. Makes bleeding easier since you know when all of the fluid is out. What I never understood were the people who just used super blue over and over, kinda defeats the purpose.
