MP3's and the FRS

I'm having issues..

I have a flash drive with a lot of songs on it, but the FRS doesn't recognize the files! If I had 1000 songs, maybe 400 of them will work.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

The ones that do work, are they all the same format?

If so and the other songs that do not play, try to convert them to the music format type that do play

Are they in multiple folders? Everything on my thumb drive works just fine. Is the metadata filled out, or is it blank on the ones that don't appear?

Assuming that this is the standard Pioneer unit, here are the rules from the manual:

This unit assigns folder number. The user can not assign folder numbers.
MP3/WMA/AAC files in the USB portable audio player/USB memory are played
in the same order as they were copied to the USB portable audio player/USB
memory.

To specify the order in which files in the USB portable audio player/USB
memory are played, we recommend the following method.

1. Using a personal computer, add a number indicating the playback order in
front of the file name, e.g. [001xxx.mp3] or [099yyy.wma].

2. Put the files into a folder.

3. Copy the folder to the USB portable audio player/USB memory.

Depending on the computer environment, it may not be possible to specify the
order by this method. It is not possible to check folders that do not include
MP3/WMA/AAC files. (These folders will be skipped without displaying
the folder number.)

MP3/WMA/AAC files in up to 8 tiers of folders can be played back. However,
there is a delay in the start of playback on discs and USB portable audio
player/USB memory with numerous tiers. For this reason we recommend
creating discs with no more than 2 tiers.

It is possible to play back up to 192 folders on one
disc.

It is possible to play back up to 255 folders on one USB portable audio player/
USB memory.

You should check your USB drive folder structure to make sure that it complies with these requirements.

depending on what head unit you have it may differ but i've got the one with the touch screen. a few tips,
-you can only have up to about 240ish songs in each folder
-you can onlly have up to about 240ish folders on each folder level (assumption based on max files u can have per folder level)
-adding files to the tumbdrive will be sorted by Older(higher on list) to newer(lower on list). If multiple files are added in 1 session then the files are sorted alphabetically
-random sucks(head unit will pretty much designate 10-15 songs and just play them over and over and over)

Granted i have a Canadian FRS and the upgraded Headunit. i cannot comment on the stock headunit

I have a root folder (1200 songs).

From there I created 4 folders.

I copy pasted stuff from the root into the 4 folders.

Some songs completely disappeared, the other ones are still there, but never show up on the playlist

yeah the random feature does suck. I think my root folder shows more than 240 songs available though (even though in actuality i probably have 500-600 songs on that folder)

i'm pretty sure if u reduce ur folder content to around 200 files per folder i think u should see all ur stuff. i had to play with it for a while to get what i want. Now if you look at my tumbdrive via computer it just looks like i'm a OCD neat freak
