Air jacks would be so handy/cool. I wonder if they will be a possible bolt-on mod.

I can see myself forking over some cash for that.

air jack isn't simple bolt on mod.

SPCorBUST 03-26-2012 02:25 PM

That would all depend on the car and the system. If Toyota designed it to be installed without major modifications it could be very simple. All there really is to it is four pneumatic rams and hoses/connecters/manifold to connect it all. There's nothing complex about it, but unless they car and system are designed for it mounting can be very complicated.

A good air jack system costs ~$3,000 to purchase and probably $2-3,000 to install properly. It's definitely for the hard-core racer. You don't do this unless you're running an endurance race or something where pit stop times count.

I think a B-Spec Mazda 2 is more in line with my budget, though

Yes, nothing complex about it, it's same concept as roll cage. Just simply strip everything & weld the parts, put everything back again.

IDK bout you, but that's not called simple "bolt-on" mod

chulooz 03-26-2012 03:04 PM

No way its bolt-on, but this might be an accessible option for quality aftermarket involvement since the application has already been provided via OEM.

Also, pricing wont convert right. True OEM race prepped gear is rarely cheap, yet quality.
Of course all of these mods could be done for much cheaper by third party.

SkullWorks 03-26-2012 03:14 PM

Air Jacks usually require a Roll cage to brace into the chassis.

The system is simple I have overhauled and built to print a couple cylinders, but getting the chassis to support it is really the hard part.

The parts would be cheaper if there wasn't such a liability associated with them.

The car from the factory like that is Mad Baller....Definitely going to get more people serious about using these for what they were intended, Here's to hoping the series Stay N/A so we can get super pimped out N/A headers and Exhausts off crashed race cars soon

Agree! :happy0180:

getting some of rare ones from Japan gonna be super rare

Sully 03-26-2012 03:29 PM

And hoping the engines are required to be relatively stock, too.

But even if they aren't, the race manifolds would look amazing, I'm sure.

merlin2111 03-26-2012 03:43 PM

I like that these are already being talked about. I am hoping that we will get a set of racing series over here. I would love to participate in the almost stock one lol.

FLHC 03-26-2012 09:19 PM

yeah totally not happening in the US.... even ford gives the other countries the cool vehicles, I.E. the Ford Focus RS

Corey 03-26-2012 10:14 PM

There may not be much point to bringing one of these to America anyway. I guess starting with the base model that isn't available would be nice, but you'd need to do some research to determine whether the roll cage even meets SCCA/NASA/etc. standards. In the end I'd guess it'd be a lot easier and cheaper to start with an American model and prep it than import one of these cars and deal with that mess plus getting used to right hand drive. Just ask yourself, is the "JDM cool factor" really worth over $65,000 USD? ;)
