I know Subaru likes to make minor tweaks every 2 years and bigger changes every 4-6. If they hit the sales numbers they want, I could definitely see this being a 10+ year platform.

I don't see why not. Most cars change every 5 years but I've noticed sports cars tend to have longer production cycles. Take some examples (might be off a year here or there but you get the idea):
-Chevy Camaro: 2nd gen '70-81, 3rd gen '82-92, 4th gen '93-02 -Corvette: 4th gen '84-96, 5th gen '97-04, 6th gen '05-current -Miata: NA '90-97, NB '99-05, NC '06-present -RX-7: SA/FB '79-85, FC 86-92, FD '93-02 (Japan only; U.S. sales from '93-95) -RX-8: '03-present 300ZX: Z32 '89-98 (Japan only, U.S. sales from '90-96) Following that logic, I expect a mid-cycle refresh in 2016 or thereabouts, and a second generation around 2020. But who knows? Technology is moving so fast and vehicles are becoming so much more efficient, we could be seeing a new one sooner than that! |
