Years in Production?
 

I'm sure it is completely dependent on how well it sells... If they make money from making them, they'll keep making them. :)

they said this car will be longer than cars normally stay for so 10ish years with a refresh (more power) in the middle

10 year production cycle, which to me sounds like a stretch but you never know; the Miata was very similar for 15 years. I'm too tired to look up the source, but I read it somewhere. Someone back me up, lol

I've heard at least a 10 year run, I hope longer.

Miata came out in 1990, so 13 year run..

from the interviews it seems they want to stretch it out as long as possible so 10yrs sounds about right.

Rx8 stayed around with slight cosmetic updates. Power was never updated even though critics said it was slow and needed more power. So while a later BRZ might have more power, it's not a given.

They'll keep making them as long as they sell, I'm sure. We'll probably see a refresh every couple years and a new generation in 6.

My money is on this horse.

Since it's a niche product in a niche part of the segment and people seem only care about paper performance ie HP/TQ, 0-60 times, etc. I would assume up to 10 years production max if it doesn't sell as well as they are predicting. The s2000 lasted about 10 years so I'll use that as the benchmark.

Most vehicles average about 5 years on a production run. Typically they refresh at 2/3 years. Then if the vehicle is successful they will re-design it at the 5 or 6 year point for another 5 year run. Some vehicles like the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic get redesigned 8 or 9 times or more and stay in production for 30 plus years..

I can't find the source but want to say it was 7-10 yrs for the production cycle. Zaku might remember.

The car will have a 7-10 year production run as others have mentioned. However, if sales are not strong in the U.S. they may stop importing them. The respective manufacturers of the Supra, RX-7, & 300ZX all stopped importing them to this country 4-5 years before the production run ended.

I wouldn't worry about production runs. If you are serious about wanting one you will get it long before they stop bringing it here (3 years minimum) and if you aren't going to purchase in that time frame then there is no point in thinking about what car you might buy 5 years from now since the whole market could be different.
