Innovate wideband and Invidia FP install
Well... that was fun, lol.
Started off by drilling into a brand new front pipe to weld the bung for the o2 sensor. Comparison of stock vs invidia fp: http://i.imgur.com/JCrOJTr.jpg Buddy about to start drilling... :cry: http://i.imgur.com/0HFikq3.jpg I didn't get any pics of the weld job, which is probably best as it was definitely good for a few laughs.:lol: The fp install is quite simple, it can be done without removing the underbody but I would highly suggest doing. Once it's bolted up you're good 2 go. Granted we didn't have a plug for the bung we welded and hadn't calibrated the sensor yet so couldn't fire it up without a nasty leak. The wiring was the fun part :\ Decided to tap into the radio for the gauge power and power for the calibration button and led. We wired the power source for the lc1 module to the 12v socket where the removable cupholders are. Don't have a use for it and with the armrest I have I can't really use it anyway. While getting to the wires I noticed that the ol' ae86 shift boot is nicely hidden underneath the leather shift boot (lol): http://i.imgur.com/pIh7N5e.jpg Just an FYI for those that don't know, there is an extra 12v socket (switch source) hidden behind the glove box. Just open it up and look directly in the back. It's got a cap over it but it's there ;) I didn't take any pics but just feeling around and you'll find it. Got everything wired up and decided to place the gauge on the steering wheel. It blocks the spedo only slightly but given the fact we have a digital display on the tach it doesn't bother me that much. http://i.imgur.com/iQjZrth.jpg Calibration was easy and after doing the open air calibration it was ready to go. Doesn't looks too too bad under the hood. http://i.imgur.com/BDw959C.jpg Well once we started datalogging we realized we had quite a bit of an exhaust leak which lead to extremely lean readings. Turns out my buddy didn't tighten the front pipe to the overpipe all the way. So we got that done and then whaddya know... leak from our amazing welding job :lol: Got that taken care of and so far everything has been reading well. I'll post some logs up later. Any other folks out there with widebands that do any logging? I'm curious to compare as I've noticed the car still reads a bit lean when off throttle. I have seen ranges from 50:1 to 30:1 etc, but after switching over to another unichip map (-time -fuel) I have noticed some improvement. I think I may possibly have a slight leak still (no longer from the weld though) so I'll be taking a look at that. |

I've used several widebands in the past and on this car the factory front sensor is a wide range sensor that is accurate down to 12:1.
Essentially, any reading leaner than 20:1 is meaningless (in fact, most of the older innovates do not read leaner than 20:1) as the injectors are already shut off at 20:1 unless you have a big exhaust leak diluting the sensor. The only range you need to be paying attention too is from 10:1 to 20:1 (10 being pig rich, 20 being dead lean). 14.7 (actually about 14.5 ) is the gasoline stoich point that will be targeted during closed loop. |
