Tire size help
Hey everyone, I need some help deciding on a tire size. I recently bought Volk CE28N 18x8.5 5x100 +44 offset and am going to be purchasing Michelin Pilot Super Sports and can't decide on tire size, 235/40ZR18 or 245/35ZR18, also up for suggestions, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a few power mods intake, exhaust, and tune coming soon. In the spring I plan to get coilovers that have a drop of about 1.42'' front 1.38'' rear These will be used for daily driving and only in the summer with 3-8 track/autocross days in there. thanks guys/gals |
I'd go 245/35-18. The 235/40 is taller, 25.4" vs 24.8", so it gives slightly worse gearing and higher ride height. No weight penalty for the 245s, and a smidge more lateral grip. No doubt some will insist that 245s are "too wide" for 8.5" wheels, but it's a totally legit fitment, and preferable over the 235/40s.

Thanks, I think that's what I'll go with. I was a little worried about them rubbing up front.

I agree, go with the 245

Congrats on the wheels. CE28Ns are a quality modern classic.
I have 245/35R18 Pilot Super Sports on 18x8.5 +43 wheels on the front of mine with 1.75 degrees of negative camber and around a 20mm drop. Nothing has ever touched, anywhere ... despite my very best efforts. |
245's are not too wide for a 8.5 wheels. thats actaulyl what you want.
the 2008+ STI's havea 8.5' wide wheel and come with a 245/40 STOCK. its perfectly square. if i were you i'd go with a 245/40. i think a 245.35 is too small of a side wall. luckily the PSS do run wider so you will have more meet. you should not rub AT ALL with that setup. just look at how aggressive i'm running and i'm 100% fine DD'ing AND on track. -ivan |
245/35x18 gives stock rolling circumference. 40 series are too tall.
The closest 40 series that gives similar rolling circumference to stock is 225. Also, 225/35 is similar but on the small side, plus not very common! I find this site very useful because it includes offset: http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp |
Thanks for all the help! I went with the 245/35ZR18 and got some lug nuts too
