3A Racing Exhaust Tips
7 Attachment(s)
After looking at other threads for tips to replace the pathetic stock exhaust tips, I decided on the below.
3A Racing 62-2407 Stainless Exhaust Tip Slant 4" Stainless Bolt-On
I found them on Amazon, and the price was right, $10.74 each with free shipping. I ordered them on a Monday from the Amazon seller, Auto Parts Discounters, and had them on Thursday. Right away I was impressed with the build quality and appearance of them, especially for less than $11 each. They run $29.99 each MSRP, but somehow this seller can sell them for much less. So the install: The drivers side tip slid on to what I thought was the perfect depth, until it hit the exhaust pipe bend that stopped it. Unfortunately the passenger side tip couldn't slide on as far, about 0.5" less, due to its exhaust pipe bending sooner. To fix this I used a large crescent wrench with a cloth over the mounting end of the tip, and slightly bent the metal outward, giving me a large opening to slide it on further. With that done and both tips sliding on the same depth I wanted, I discovered the 2.118" exhaust pipe was too large for the 6x20mm set screws they provided, for the brackets to seat around the exhaust pipe. So to fix this I went to Home Depot, bought four 6x25mm screws ($0.40 each) to give me a little more length for the brackets to mount. To mount the tips, use the 6x25mm screws on the top two brackets, and the supplied 6x20mm screws for the bottom bracket. Center the exhaust pipe in tip, and then slightly tighten each bracket repeatedly, until you finish with a nice centered fit. I think the tips look great, giving the stock exhaust the appearance they it should have come with from the factory. Also, at idle my exhaust has a slightly louder and lower rumble than before, as these do have 4+ inches beyond the exhaust pipe to resonate. This has to be the best $21 I've ever spent as this will buy me time until I get a full cat-back Perrin system, which was going to be my first upgrade, but have since decided to get coilovers first. And as for your comment, why would I spend $200 on Perrin tips, and not just buy the exhaust. The point of this mod and thread is for those that want a "temporary" inexpensive tip upgrade for their FT86. And I find it funny you think their "fugly." |
lololol.. chillax.. one man's trash is another man's treasure.
I must agree, this is a very good option. I just looked it at amazon. A seller is selling at for 11 shipped. 13 left. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/3A-Racing-62-2407-Stainless-Exhaust/dp/B00029J0NW"]3A Racing 62-2407 Stainless Exhaust Tip Slant 4" Stainless Bolt-On : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame] |
Today I learned that people that have lots of sex like Wal-Mart exhaust tips.

You know, not bad at all. Don't listen to all the snobs :) I just ordered a pair myself, can't beat it for under $25.

Definitely appreciate the info. Contrary to some people, I think that looks massively better than the stock tips. For $30-40 I have plenty of friends that'd go this road while they save for aftermarket goods. Kudos for the info!
