Home Brewing - Mead, Beer, and Wine
I just purchased everything to start home brewing and yesterday I made up my first 5 gallon batch of mead or honey wine. I am making a Cinnamon Apple mead and it smells amazing already. In a few months I should have about 25 750ml bottles to enjoy!
Anyone else into making their own booze? If so what do you make and what suggestions do you have for someone just getting started. Post pictures of your setups if you have one and of course the obligatory bottle shots are always great too! |
It's been a while, but I've done a fair amount of homebrewing. Mostly beer, but I've done a cider that was pretty good.
Keep everything CLEAN. That's the main advice I can give. - Andy |
I sanitized everything with a commercial sanitizer but I am still a little worried. Only time will tell!

Welcome to the would of home brewing. May you never drink crappy beer again.
I'm a 2-1/2 gallon brewer and so far this year I've made 5 different brews. 1/2 BIAB and half straight extract. |
I've brewed a couple 5 gal two stage batches. The most recent is a chocolate porter. I've been meaning to brew something more "summery" but I seem to plan poorly, and start in the season and then it's ready at the end of the season... whomp.
Sanitation is important, but don't get too crazy, c-brite (or other equivalent) and clean hands are the biggest thing. I wish I had some cool labels, but all my bottles are blank -- stripping the labels is the biggest PITA! |
