Bayson R lip kit review
 

I recently found the time to install the Bayson R front lip on the BRZ. I am pleased with the result and thought I'd post my experience here.

I picked up the kit in person, from their store here in San Jose,CA. The people on site opened up the packaging and held the piece in place so I could make a final decision. Upon initial inspection, the front lip was warped in a way that did not allow it to properly fit. They convinced me that this could be easily addressed by leaving the piece out in the sun for an hour or two.

This turned out to be true. Leaving the Polyurethane piece out in the sun allowed it to warm and take it's natural shape. Once, warm and pliable, we were able to go to work drilling the front bumper and mounting the lip.

The kit included 14 nuts, bolts, and washers and no instructions. I was told at the store that installation would be easiest if I removed the front bumper. I decided to keep the bumper in place since I had an extra pair of hands to help out. Admittedly, some of the bolt points would be much, much easier to reach and tighten had I removed the bumper.

Overall I am definitely satisfied and would suggest others purchase as well. I will include the side skirts review in this post after I find time to install them.

Installation time took 2 hours for the side skirts. It was a very straight forward process.

Initially Bayson R sold me a set of side skirts that had a poor and inconsistent finish. This was due to the factory in Asia packaging the pieces before their finish had time to set. As a result, you could see the pattern of the bubble wrap in the finish of the piece. Kevin at Bayson R was very helpful in restoring my side skirts to a proper finish. We even tore open another 4 packages and they all had the same poor finish. After dropping the sides skirts off on Friday, I had them in hand by the next Monday and they finish was back to normal.

Each side fastens securely with 5 self tapping screws and 2 nuts and 2 bolts for the ends.

Do you have to remove the undertray to install the lip?

Can you install without jacking the car up?

You don't have to jack up the car if you remove the bumper, otherwise, you need to raise the car to be able to drill from underneath.

Whichever way you decide, you will need to remove the under-body panel located in black on the ground in this picture.

I got front lip and side skirts for $300 cash OTD.

I wish I would have known about leaving it out in the sun (and having an extra hand). Also those guide clips would have been nice. Mine is a bit off, so I'm going to have to re-drill , ugh.

Yeah, warming it definitely helps. I don't think the guide clips demonstrated in the video are applicable to the Bayson R kit, just the HTAutos one. I found it was easiest to drill the center hole first to ensure that the fangs of the lip and bumper were lined up as best as possible. Once I had that location, I proceeded outwards on either side. We muscled the last few drill locations to ensure a good fit.

if you hate to drill your bumper, you could use 3M VHB tape. That would be the easiest way to do.

However, the side skirts don't work well with 3M VHB tape. You should be looking something like Tigerseal.

I was thinking about the same thing. Could the tape be too thick? So in return it might cause from offset from the bumper? Sorry, just a case of OCD.

I believe it's 0.45mm. It depends on which type of VHB you will be using.

I used VHB 5952. The highest grade will be 4952. Yes There will be a slightly offset which is really not noticeable. You could warm the lips up by using heat gun.

Fyi, the Bayson R front lip looks exactly the same as mine sold on ebay for ~100. Ht auto lips and sti lips are different.

In for the skirts review. Hope it will look good with an sti lip as I don't like their side skirts.

this lip and skirt is being sold on here as the CS poly ones.
i have it installed and looks great.

and also drilling the holes isnt so bad, since its going to be covered and if you remove it just cover the holes with some tape. . .
noone is going to see the underside of your car anyways

also some type of glue should be used on the skirts if you arent going to drill
the tape will give you a gap
