Newb Brake bed-in (bedding?) question
Just purchased my very first set of "race pads/high temp pads" as prep for my upcoming track day. The shop I purchased the pads say that I can actually just pop the new pads in the night before/morning of my track day and they will bed-in just fine once I slam on my brakes on that first corner. From my lay-man knowledge of what the bed-in process is supposed to be doing, I'm not so sure. I've replaced brake pads before and have the done the bed-in process (4-5 35-10 mph runs, then a couple a little bit faster, then let them cool) but have never done so with "higher temp" pads. Would it be a different process? ie have to get them hotter, so faster and harder braking to bed them in? I've checked out the manufacturer website but did not find anything.
Second newb question, when I do switch back to my stock pads (for DD), is there any need to "re-bed-in"? I'd assume that they would just be a "swap and go" type of scenario. |
While that procedure will "work", be prepared for some funking braking characteristics that first session.
Don't "slam" on the brakes. You want to be braking hard, but not at ABS. PM me your e-mail and I'll send you our bedding procedures. Does the shop you purchased these pads from just regurgitate information or do they actually have a significant amount of experience with tracking a BRZ/FRS? |

The key with bedding in pads is to achieve the temperature (range) at which the pads will operate to initiate the transfer process. Or, you can do it at the track and endure really inconsistent braking performance for a few laps. -alex |

You pick "race" pads based on the temperatures you expect the brakes to be used in (highly dependent on your speed/HP as well as vehicle weight), so your bedding procedures are modified to match the pad and the temp range. A lot of this is determined by the track, too. -alex |
