Sitting on the side of the road. coolant all over engine bay

http://imgur.com/w3bDHY7.jpgJust going down the interstate and cel comes on, coolant hot or low sensor voltage. Pull over coolant is almost at 300f and oil at 270f . Coolant is all over the engine bay like a bad Japanese porno. I have no idea what has happened. Waiting on tow truck atm.

When and what was the most recent work done in the engine bay?

ML 08-04-2013 04:15 PM

Catch can on the pcv line last week. Been running fine though.

Wow thats odd, did you hit something? the caps look in tact I'm almost thinking the radiator ruptured

xjohnx 08-04-2013 06:25 PM

Have you been able to locate the source yet?

ML 08-04-2013 06:51 PM

Car is sitting at my brothers shop until morning. Currently drinking heavily. Will report asap.

That's kind of what im thinking as well. The upper hose looks to be ok. A head gasket could do this, but it would be odd, and most of the spray seems to be heavy on the front of the engine. What was the temp gauge reading? I wonder if it overheated, then boiled over through the overflow tank or rad cap???

ML 08-04-2013 08:15 PM

Yeah it looks like it overflowed into the fan or something. What would cause it to overheat though. Please not head gasket.

idk about the over heating but the way it sprayed your engine bay looked like how my old sti did with a radiator crack.

I hope its just a radiator crack, and not HG...I remembered when I changed the oil, the coolant was a little low, but my brother didn't have the right antifreeze the maintenance book called for so he just topped it off with the normal stuff he had. Could this have caused the antifreeze to
gunk up in the line somewhere and then blow? It couldn't have been more than a few mL.

I doubt mixing the different types of antifreeze would do this, but I question why you would do it. If you don't have any of the right stuff, just top it off with water. In NC a little antifreeze will go a long ways. We don't need -20 protection.

What was the water-to-coolant ratio used? Looks more like a radiator failure than the engine.

Not sure, what ever was from the factory. Engine still runs fine, I cranked it up for a minute or two last night. No smoke, or noises, everything seems to run fine.

True, I don't know, we just didn't.
