More Power VS. other Performance Mods

1 Attachment(s)
My last semester of school begins at the end of the month and I am thinking about doing a few other things to the car before summer ends. I can't decide if I should upgrade my Vortech kit for more power or do other mods such as all around LED's, Beefier brakes and some cosmetic modifications. Any advice from you guys? I'm happy with the power I have but knowing there is still potential with some fuel system upgrades has me pushing for 300 WHP.

Here's my current Dyno

Wheels/tires make a huge difference, as does a front sway bar.

As soon as I burn through these tires I'll get a more aggressive set but I still have a decent amount of tread on em. I dont want to add a swaybar yet since I have heard of fitment issues with overpipes and I like the car being tail happy. Tires will definitely add the most performance for the buck!

A couple other mods that I've done and wouldn't trade for the world are the Beltronics STi-R remote mount radar detector (install thread here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25140 - start around post #13) and the OEM Audio Plus system.

Not exactly performance mods, but definitely improved the overall driving experience.

Upgrade radiator, engine+trans+diff mounts, heavy duty clutch, heavy duty drive shaft, coil overs, install a proper gauge (or a tablet+bluetooth thingy), driver mod (aka go autocross/drag/hpde at the current power level).

or you know, get 300whp and roast cars on the highway fast n furious yolo

Marcoscrdo 08-04-2013 09:22 PM

I say enjoy what you got for right now because its still new and maybe some exterior stuff but future mods what if ya got the carbon fiber drive shaft 1 piece for less clunk o.o

Jrohit 08-04-2013 09:31 PM

I say save turbo until after school ends. Save your wallet for now and then go on a spending spree

Darryljr11 08-04-2013 09:57 PM

I have a gauge app on my iphone and my coolant temp sits between 188 and 195 so i'm not gonna touch that. I like the suspension the way it is and until the clutch starts slipping I wont upgrade that. Driveshaft won't be till next year or later since the stock one is fine. I have been drag racing the car since I got it so that will continue. I think anything I do now will be for maintenance and cosmetic since I am happy with the current power level of the car.

Lol sorry dude, I meant save the upgrade for the SC (called turbo by accident). I was reading this on my phone when I was with my family. Apologies.

What he said except he was right

You want more power GO Turbo!

JK

Seriously though Tires wheels and LCA's

OrbitalEllipses 08-05-2013 03:01 AM

Tires will make the single biggest difference. I suggest saving up to get them next spring (or get some winter tires if you're driving the car all four seasons) and only spending money on a few minor mods: shorty antenna, clear corners, lug nuts, shift knob, etc.

leon78 08-05-2013 11:19 AM

Spend your money on AutoX registration and get driver mod.

I have money for tires now but ill wait till next year to get stickier summer tires. Already looking at a flossy shift knob lol.

Tires/Wheels
Alignment/Coilovers
Brake Pads/SS Lines

Jaylyons1 08-05-2013 04:07 PM

It's really up to you. What do you want the car to do? For me, anything too expensive as far as cosmetic mods go is a waste but some people really like them and to each their own. I can't see the car while I'm driving it so it doesn't really matter.

Diode Dynamics 08-05-2013 04:09 PM

You can swap out some bulbs with LEDs really cheap and it'll make your car look more "luxurious"

Leds are in the near future

IloveBaldEagles 08-05-2013 06:20 PM

Just don't add more rice to the sashimi. Make it tasteful but not ricey.

+1 for Diode Dynamics' kits. I've got the indicators, side markers, dome, trunk, and plate LEDs.

OrbitalEllipses 08-05-2013 06:39 PM

F1 rear brake light is a cool mod too.

I think I'll start with leds and a shift knob and upgrade the brakes once the current ones are worn and get my mudflaps installed. Then tires and a carbon fiber driveshaft and maybe a clutch.

Clutch is definitely something I'd leave alone until it goes. I'd do tires WAY before that. I'd do tires before CFDS too. Brakes I'd probably do some pads/lines now since you're past stock power; I can't imagine slowing down feels good right now.

It doesn't. Feels like i'm driving a Ford lol. Tires would come first if not at the same time as the driveshaft

Stainless brake lines are an amazing addition.

Wheels/Tires Of Course

Injectors, Pump, Flex Fuel = 300+hp :)

Yeap! Its a Solid Kit, I've had DDM kits in the past and No more.

TRS is the way to go, but also give other vendors a shot if you are looking into it

I'll sell you my TRS kit for a good price.

Also I'm with the "come autocross" folks. It's a great time and you really learn what the car can do.

Also, twincharge.

I'm gonna get OEM headlamps. I want the LED pattern more than I want HID's. And thanks for rubbing it in.

Awww there there *pats you on the shoulder*

TyperRspec789 08-08-2013 03:27 AM

In all seriousness, tires... Then when your clutch craps out, get a clutch. Then DONE.

lswindell4 08-11-2013 09:53 PM

I am also happy with Diode Dynamics. Bought Xenon headlights and LED driving and other exterior and interior lighting.
