Aussie price poll

Hi all,

Thought I'd put a poll up, since it shouldn't be too long now until we find out Australian pricing.

So what do you think we're likely to see as the price for an 86 here? Please base your estimate on the following conditions:
- Drive away RRP (includes dealer delivery, rego, CTP, etc but excluding any discounts you may be able to negotiate)
- Lowest specification available (so base model)
- Manual transmission
- Metallic paint (yeah, I know, can you believe they still try to charge extra for this?)

Nardi330 03-21-2012 11:22 PM

I have a feeling it'll be around $38k + orc which means over $40k on road.

PuGZoR 03-21-2012 11:30 PM

Here's the price of a few other cars, for the sake of comparison. (based on QLD drive away prices)

Toyota Rukus: $30,933
Toyota Corolla: $24,238
Mazda MX5: $48,124
Mazda3 MPS: $43,307 (TURBO POWA)
Nissan 370Z: $75,801
Subaru WRX: $44,115 (TURBO POWA)
Subaru Impreza: $27,637
BMW 1 Series Coupe: $52,578
Hyundai Veloster: $27,775

I'm an optimist, so I'm going $38K-$39K, but I do have a feeling that it will start at $39990 + ORC.

In bold

The MX-5 is only a 2 seater and a roadster.. so its not exactly a direct comparison.

The BMW pretty much ticks most of the same boxes only we don't know the 'exact' price points for the 86 and a BMW is a lot more money to up-keep.

I'm only going to buy it if the base is no more then 35 + on road, which I'm doubting that will happen =(

None of those are a direct comparison; I've provided them as a cost comparison only. For a lot of people though, this is potentially the first new car they're going to buy. That list is only so people know what other cars actually cost.

I'm with Nardi on this one. Base Model will be a smidge under 40k before ORC's.

i call this bullsh17. less than 3 months before launch with pre orders being accepted and yet they don't know how much Toyota Japan is charging????

how could Toyota UK and Scion finalise their price then???

this guy must be on drugs!!! he surely didn't mean under $40,000??? a typo??

Mr Callachor said he did not know what pricing Subaru was targeting for BRZ, and did not want to know, for anti-competitive reasons.
yeah right......... don't cry when people line up at Subaru instead!!

I was in Terry Shields Toyota in Parramatta yesterday, and the sales manager there told me they had 13 preorders with "less than $50k" in their opt-out clauses. Meaning that people are willing to give up their $1000 deposit if the car comes in at $49999 and they don't like it.
He also told me that they expect there to be a $70,000 (yes, 70,000 not a typo) prestige model. When I laughed and told him that no one in their right mind would pay that he told me that he had a customer that said he would pay that.
Other tid bits that this guy told me are that if I put a deposit down yesterday, I could expect the car in first quarter 2013, and that Toyota had 300+ preorders Australia wide.
Personally I took it all with a grain of salt, but I thought I'd pass this info on.

He's having a laugh. This whole pricing business has really gone down hill in the last day. I have so much rage from reading this thread that I don't think I'm going to like the end result.

Nardi330 03-22-2012 06:05 AM

$70k?? Wahahahahaha

It's not even featured in Initial D and it already has Takumi tax??

Fussy08X 03-22-2012 09:41 AM

Im amazed that an mx5 can cost so much. It is more expensive than both a WRX and an MPS which to me completely out value it. Also that salesman at Parra sounds like he's talking so much crap.
