New BRZ owner with a question!

First off let me introduce myself,

My name is Alex and I took delivery of my BRZ 4 days ago.

This is going to be my winter / DD as I have my garage queen (e92 m3) for the weekends. :)

I had a few questions hopefully you guys can answer:

First off where the rear bumper meets the fender liner there are three holes to secure the bumper to the liner. My car has only the top plastic rivet in place with the two bottom holes being empty, is this the way it comes>?

Next question is about driveline noise, is it normal to hear a thud when clutching in and place the shifter into first gear? I happens if I'm at a light or when the car is stationary and I want to take off?

Lastly is it normal the engine has a slight vibration at idle?

Thanks in advance !

Alex

Yes the thud is normal, you can buy STI bushings that are stiffer than the stock bushings.

Yes the engine vibrates at idle.

Good luck in the snow:bonk: Recommend good snow tires.

The holes are normal. I just noticed mine like that yesterday and my STi had the same thing.

Holes are supposed to be that way. They exist for the installation of OEM mudflaps. If you kinda stick your finger in there and poke around, you'll see that there's nothing behind it - the fender liner has a notch cut out around the hole, so even if you wanted to put a fastener there, there wouldn't be anything for it to attach to - there's just empty space behind the hole.

Thanks, I thought the dealer had removed the bumper.... I feel better now!

They are there incase you decide to install OEM mud flaps.

Yes. What's happening is that when you're sitting in neutral with your foot off the clutch, the input shaft of the transmission is turning. If you push in the clutch and hold it without shifting into gear, the input shaft will spin down and stop. But if you push in the clutch and immediately shift into gear, the transmission itself will stop the input shaft, and the rotational force is transmitted along the drive shaft to the differential. The clunk you're hearing is the differential absorbing that force.

The clunk doesn't hurt anything. It's just a noise. If it bothers you, just hold the clutch in a little longer before shifting into gear.

This car has so many vibrations and rattles and other noises that it's hard to tell what you mean. If you mean that it has a slightly rough or erratic idle, I get that also and consider it normal. However, there was a TSB for erratic idle as well, which involved the dealer flashing the ECU with updated firmware. Personally, unless it's really bogging down and trying to quit, I wouldn't worry about a little stumble in the idle.

I bought my BRZ Series.Blue a week ago and have noticed after driving it a bit and getting it nice and hot I smell a distinct oder from the engine. It smells kind of like burning oil or plastic. Is this normal for the BRZ and if so does it go away after the "new" has worn off?

Also have smell sometimes and hear some noises but only when going into 2nd gear. Haven't noticed any noise when in neutral....
