is it ok to drive without high revving?

i just realized this afternoon that i hardly ever really wring out the engine. is that ok? i know there are some cars which are meant to be driven hard, and its actually bad to just drive under 3K all the time. anyone know if this is true with the BRZ?

You gotta let loose sometimes. It's not bad to stretch your car's legs every once in a while. It's like walking your whole life but never run.

I would not worry about it, I drive mine like a grandma 97% of the time. I think the only downside is that your ECU will adapt to your light right foot and retard ignition timing a bit, so the car is not at its peak performance, but no harm should come from it.

My favorite time to really wring out the car is the freeway on-ramp in 3rd gear, it just feels like the engine is trying so hard to get up and go and it makes me laugh every single time. Reminds me of "The little engine that could" - I think I can, I think I can! haha :)

Thanks,
Rick

Can't believe the stupid posts here lately. Is this the 1st car for 16 yr olds now?

Pretty much. Problem is when you go to the $60K cars, you get stupid 40yr olds instead of stupid kids.

Performing an Italian tune up once a week isn't a bad idea, it's not like we've got an Italian or rotary motor under the hood, nothing bad will likely occur from babying it. I think there are guys who have had theirs for months and are still under break in...

That's really harsh. Nice way to make someone feel like part of our community. Perhaps in your life you never did anything for the first time.

No machine is meant to be driven hard. It's not that they're not capable of it but in the big picture the engines that have been run hard will be a mechanics nightmare before a car that has been driven sensibly. Because of the way cars are built today it might take a long time but it will happen. Drive the car the way that let's you enjoy it and not the way you think someone else might enjoy it.

Most engine wear occurs in the cold to warmed up time , so its very important to drive slowly and carefully until it is fully warmed up.
With a cold climate this will take longer.
After warm up a few revs will help clean the fuel lines and maf , de coke the engine and reduce oil sludging.
